Excellence Driving School — Attraction in Dubai

I want to share my journey of learning to drive an LMV (car) at Excellence Driving School, which took me around 11 (Technically 7 as I was on two months leave)months to finally clear all the required tests.

My Instructors

Mohammed Amir (Hor Al Anz branch): As a complete beginner, Amir bhai was my first instructor. He was very kind, patient, and generous in teaching me the driving basics. He helped me feel comfortable behind the wheel when I had zero experience.

Mohammad Arsalan (Al Rigga branch): Due to slot availability, I moved to Al Rigga where Arsalan bhai guided me. He is very friendly, supportive, and makes you feel like driving is easy if you just follow the rules. With him, I learned lane changing, highway driving, and cleared my initial basics.

Mohammed Rizwan (Al Qusais branch): Since I was failing internal assessments at the Al Qusais branch, I began training there with Rizwan bhai. He is straightforward and honest—he immediately points out mistakes, gives you a chance to correct them, and even demonstrates the correct way himself. Thanks to him, I cleared my internal assessment and later my parking internal, though it took me 4 painful attempts due to parallel/garage parking struggles. Rizwan helped me adjust my technique, and I passed on the next try.

Muhammed Arif (Final RTA prep): Before my RTA final exam, Arif bhai assessed my driving. Since I had been stuck in parking tests for so long, I was hesitant about lane changes and highway speed. Arif helped me overcome those weaknesses and guided me thoroughly. I failed my first RTA attempt, but after sharing feedback with him, he helped me polish those points, and I cleared in the second attempt, Alhamdulillah.

Overall, I’m truly grateful to all these instructors who supported me through each stage.

About the Driving School Process:

While the instructors are excellent, the school process itself is very time-consuming and frustrating:

Slot Availability: Getting class or exam slots takes weeks. There’s no flexibility to book closer to your exam date, which makes preparation difficult.

Booking Process: For Lum sum students, you can’t book classes directly. You must call the school, wait up to 24 hours for a call back, and then get assigned whatever slots are available. This applies to RTA exams too.

Exam Centers: Parking tests are only available at Al Quoz or Al Qusais, which can be inconvenient.

Transport Issues: Pickup vans are scheduled at odd times, sometimes forcing you to arrive hours earlier or spend extra money (~100 AED on taxi) if you live far.

Fines: A late arrival of just 10 minutes leads to a 105 AED fine, regardless of traffic conditions, and you cannot book further classes until it’s paid.

Overall Experience: The long waiting times between classes and exams make the process exhausting. Many students lose patience, but because of the time, money, and effort already invested, you feel forced to continue.

Final Thoughts

Learning to drive itself is not that difficult—the instructors are supportive and skilled. But the system and process of the driving school are very slow and rigid, which extends the timeline unnecessarily.

My advice for new students: Choose your driving school after checking: How far the exam centers are from your home How flexible the class/exam booking process is Whether you can easily get slots close to your exam dates If the school improves slot management and flexibility, it will benefit both students and...

Finally, the 5-month wait is over – here’s my experience!❤️

I’m writing this based on my personal experience. I’ve seen many negative reviews, and maybe those people had bad experiences. But I want to share mine honestly.

I had no prior driving experience when I opened my file in February 2025. My first classes were at the Al Nahda branch, which is a small branch. Unfortunately, my first instructor experience was not good. But later, due to his absence, I was assigned to a different instructor – Alhamdulillah, that’s when I saw the real difference. He was polite, calm, and highly motivating.

From that point, I decided to try classes with different instructors instead of sticking to one, which really helped. In my opinion, waiting for one “language instructor” can waste a lot of time. Every instructor teaches something new and valuable.

One important thing I want to mention: always try to choose the main branches for your classes. My first mistake was going with a small branch (Al Nahda). But when I switched to main branches, I realized they cover 90% of the test route roads during practice. That helped a lot in understanding the actual road conditions and routes.👍

Regarding the assessments, I failed multiple times in both internal and RTA assessments – and I take full responsibility. I truly believe they don’t fail you without a reason. Every failure taught me something new and helped me prepare better for the next round. Those experiences were key to passing the RTA road test on my first attempt, Alhamdulillah!❤️

A big shoutout to the Excellence Mobile App – it was extremely helpful! Booking classes, making payments, scheduling assessments – everything was smooth and saved me a lot of time. Very user-friendly and efficient.

My honest advice: if you’re not comfortable with your instructor, don’t wait – change immediately. Don’t waste time waiting for a “language match.” Your comfort and learning matter most.
