An old World War gun emplacement with a cafe, stunning views and the best place to see the Moray Firth Dolphins for free. Plenty of parking and hood disabled access. The Greyhope cafe was very busy, but there was seating available. The cafe has huge windows that look out to the bay. Here, you can sit with a drink and a homemade traybake slice, (try the mars bar one!) and watch the dolphins roll, jump and play. If you’re really lucky, you might get to see them riding the bow waves of a ship entering the harbour. For me, this is one of Aberdeens hidden places. The views of the harbour, the city scape, the coast and the abundant wildlife make this a must visit place.

If you’re lucky enough to get to see the dolphins then you’re in for a real treat when you visit Torry Battery. You’ve got to have some real perseverance sometimes, but it’s so worth the wait when you get to see them do their thing in the wild. There’s usually big clusters of them and they’ll pop up from time to time all over the place so it really is a waiting game. It also makes for a lovely walk, too, and you may also see a crab or two in the rock pools which form. When visiting on a windy day, you’ll see waves crashing all around the lighthouse, which is pretty cool, but be sure to wrap in warm in cooler days as it can get chilly!

Fantastic view point over the river mouth, harbour and beach at Aberdeen. Although this is a ruin the walls are in a safe condition to mount the former gun points. There is parking for a few cars but beware of the very narrow parking access, suitable for cars, bikes and on foot only. Do not take a van or a minibus. There is a small information placard at the arched entrance to give a bit of history. Also a good point to watch for the dolphins if you have binoculars or a scope.

The Torry Battery was built in the 1800s and was used in both World Wars to defend Aberdeen Harbour and was decommissioned in the 1950s. This is a very good place to view Aberdeen Harbour and also good for spotting dolphins in the harbour entrance. There is ample car parking close to the Battery. The one drawback is the unsightly dustbins by the entrance, I realise they are needed but feel they could be placed in a better place. overall a good visit and I would go again.

What a great little find while out for a walk . Has a great coast path what leads down to a nice quiet beach and rockpools. If you coming by car there is a nice carpark with views over the harbour be good for dolphin watching or a base for exploring the area. The battery itself is a great place to visit and gets you out of the wind 🙂. Well worth a visit its free to visit and parking and also enjoy a nice stroll to see the lighthouses and beach.

We went to spot the bottle nosed dolphins and were not disappointed! This is a lovely area to see the big ships come into the world class Aberdeen harbour and watch the wildlife which coexists . It is also the site of the historic battery which was active till world war two. Now there are plans to build a visitor centre. A real Aberdeen favourite. Good for walkers, picnickers and nature lovers. RSPB run regular dolphin watches.
