Really nice clean beach. There is fair size free car park along beach. It's a bit narrow to drive to cars past each other so be patient with each other :-) A toilet is at the entrance to the car park which is clean and tidy enough to do the job. The beach has ots of pebbles to get over which are quite steep so be careful and only sand when tide is out if you want to go in the sea. I go sea fishing here and it's great did that whatver the tide really. Loads of other friendly anglers and passers by wanting to know if you caught anything whenever I go. Lots of people just sit on the flat pebbled area at the top which is nice enough if you don't fancy trying to get down the pebbles. I would say if you can do as its a nice beach to wander along when the tide is further out even if you are not brave enough for chilly British waters. Further in to Cold Knapp (you will see it as you drive to car park) is a really nice park with a big sort of pond in it and lots of green space and along the road outside are some nice little shops. One day I will go for a wonder and take a look but every time I get on the beach I get carried away with the finishing and chatting to all the friendly...
Read moreI’ve always found Cold Knap Beach to be one of those places that feels different every time you visit. The first thing you notice is that it isn’t your typical sandy beach, it’s all pebbles, and when the waves roll in, they make this soothing clattering sound that you can’t quite hear anywhere else. It’s oddly calming, almost meditative, just standing there listening.
For me, it’s more of a walking and thinking beach than a sunbathing one. On clear days, the views stretch out beautifully across the water, and on colder, windier days it feels rugged and wild, the kind of place where you pull your coat tighter but still don’t want to leave.
I like wandering along the promenade, especially in the evening when it’s quieter. The lake and green area just behind the beach are lovely too, perfect if you want to sit and relax or have a picnic. It never feels overcrowded, which makes it a nice escape compared to some of the busier spots in Barry.
Cold Knap might not have the golden sand postcard look, but that’s part of its charm. It’s peaceful, authentic, and has this understated beauty that keeps...
Read moreCold Knap Beach is a peaceful and scenic spot, perfect for those looking to escape the busy city and enjoy some fresh sea air. Located just a short walk from Barry Island, it offers a much quieter and more relaxed atmosphere, making it ideal for couples, families, or anyone who enjoys nature and the outdoors.
The beach itself is mostly pebbles with some sandy areas, especially when the tide is out. It’s clean and well looked after, and the view of the sea and coastline is beautiful. On a clear day, you can see across the Bristol Channel, and the sound of the waves adds to the calming experience.
There’s a lovely path along the seafront which is perfect for walking, jogging, or cycling. Benches are available for people who want to sit and enjoy the view, and there’s a large green area nearby where children can play or families can have a picnic. Parking is usually easy to find and free, which is a big bonus.
If you’re looking for a quiet place to relax, watch the sunset, or enjoy a peaceful walk by the sea, Cold Knap Beach is a fantastic choice. We really enjoyed our time there and will...
