Usta Turkish Restaurant — Restaurant in Barry

I adore Turkish cuisine and have visited the country several times in the last 23 years. From Istanbul to Antalya, Yalikavak and Kuşadası to Ölüdeniz. So I thought it was time to dine in the rare Barry Island sunshine outside. I was given the menu and cutlery with one black napkin.

I was tempted to order the Cypriot halloumi to start but finally after much deliberation, I just ordered the main meal. I chose the Usta special lamb. There was a chalk board showcasing offers, but the waiter never brought it to my attention. I was dressed casually and needed sunglasses for my wellbeing. The lamb arrived after 15-20 minutes and it was just four lamb chops with rice and salad.

Red cabbage salad, no complimentary breads or a glass of water. There were also two small dishes of sauce. One chili and the other garlic. I asked the waiter for a steak knife instead of the butter knife. There was nothing special about this dish whatsoever. I could have made it myself. It felt about as Turkish as a 99 Ice cream with a flake less than quarter of a mile down the road. I let the waiter know how disappointed I was before he gave his ‘ it’s a chef’s special’ reply....

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Usta Turkish Restaurant in Barry. I had been wanting to try this restaurant for a while, as I had heard good things about it. I was not disappointed!

The food was absolutely amazing. I started with the hot mezze platter, which was a generous serving of a variety of Turkish mezze dishes. Everything was cooked perfectly, and the flavors were incredible. I especially loved the sucuk and grilled halloumi.

For my main course, I had the mixed grill. This was a huge plate of grilled meats, including lamb, chicken, and salad. The meat was cooked to perfection.

The service at Usta was also excellent. The staff were friendly and attentive, and they were happy to answer any questions I had about the menu. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a delicious and authentic...

This place is wonderful, the service is very good and the atmosphere is great. The restaurant is busy and you do need to book in advance. There are plenty of choices on the menu and very reasonable prices. Food was very tasty and excellent quality and beautifully presented, taste was excellent. Well, it's worth a visit, and we will go back again. Well, we did go back again and had a wonderful meal and great atmosphere. They have built a new conservatory, which is fabulous. The food was again beautifully cooked and very well presented, the staff were very helpful and friendly. What a team, Mehmet runs a wonderful restaurant with a great team around him.
