Just had my first visit to this park, taking my new puppy. I am exploring all the parks nearby, and Pype Hayes impressed me. Really good place for a walk with or without a dog. There are parts where you can forget that you are close to the Chester Road.
There were lots of dogs, and every one that I came in contact with was friendly and under control. Dog walkers were friendly as well.
The park is well cared for and the facilities were well used. The children's play area was busy and the tennis courts in use. The car park is a good size, and easily accessible from the Chester Road.
Well worth a visit. I shall go back.
Additional 2020: Despite originally giving 5 stars, I have downgraded my rating, though much of what I said above still applies. I have, however, given up on this place for now, due to some unpleasant experiences.
Although the majority of people there are very nice, I've had a German Shepherd puppy attack mine, and no apology or sign of regret from the owner. I also had a lot of abuse when I complained that a dog walker had tried to kick my dog. Added to this I was told that there had been attempts to steal dogs - I spoke to one of the victims - and there was the death of a small dog attacked by an out of control large dog. I was getting less happy allowing my puppy his new found freedom off the lead. I was no longer a pleasant walk as I was constantly on my guard.
In normal circumstances problems like this would not have kept me away, but it was also becoming harder to walk my dog as there was a great deal of flooding in the park, and although it's no one's fault, it was not pleasant taking a small dog. What is someone's fault was the length of time that bins were being left unemptied. Regardless of the weather conditions, this should be a priority and reflects badly on the park.
Also, every visit in the last week or so that I was going, I was accosted by Jehovah's Witnesses and other Christians. Nothing against them, but it was becoming annoying to be followed around. A few times I would stand and talk to them, but it was getting tedious to say the least.
I shall give the park another try when the weather improves, and certainly go at different times to avoid the people that were less than pleasant. It is a nice place to go, and I miss my long walks away from traffic. At it's best, it is like walking in the...
Read moreWell a park is a park right, an open space so what can you rate it on l.... I guess the attending people / maintenance and wardens/ security it has in place. In my experience it has more then it's fair share of chavs, expect to see fires / quad bikes and kids throwing stones at the swans. There is no security or wardens, there are shops nearby but nothing of any quality. It has hosted fireworks many bonfire nights but if you google it none have passed without some sort of incident taking place. It has a fair there about 4 times a year which to be honest ain't that bad, But the noise from 'DJ Jump' and the 'Twister' speakers is a nightmare for...
Read moreI am 80 yrs old I have distinctive memories of being pushed around in a pram there as a young child. I spent many happy memories there as I grew up. Catching tiddlers and frogs in the brook on the far side of the park. Walking around the pond that was full of colourful Lillie"s. Seeing men fishing from the ponds edge and smelling the beautiful aroma of the flowers in the garden. Alas I live on the other side of the world now but I transport myself back to the park and the pictures by means of the web and I find myself in the park again. Drinking from the fountain next to the shop and buying an ice cream. Happy Memories that stay...
