Liked: The safari tent was well equipped with a fridge, beds and indoor and outdoor seating. You have an induction job for meals a kettle and barbecues and fire pits are allowed. It’s well equipped with cups plates and utensils. We had to buy glasses as there were none but improvised with cut up bottles until we could buy more. There were multiple sockets and lamps in the bedrooms as well as Wi-Fi which was okay not the strongest but you have the option of Premium Wi-Fi for an extra charge. There were heaters if needed but the weather was hot so we didn’t use them. The safari tents are close to the toilets and showers which were clean and well maintained. The site feels secure has space for caravans and tents with pods too. The staff were friendly and the site generally quiet when we were there. There was a little noise from trains and planes but it didn’t impact on our stay. We used the site as a base mostly for going into London by rail from local town Broxbourne. It’s about 30 mins into central London and we left the car in the Old Mill car park and the staff at the campsite can give you a parking voucher which allows you to park for free. The car park is about a 5 min walk to the station. It’s a good base for walking, cycling and there was fishing. We really liked the local pub Fish and Eels which was a 5 min walk and the local town Hoddesdon was lovely with a great cafe called Evya Cafe next to the Aldi, fantastic food at very competitive prices. We loved the charity shops there and also went to Ware which is another lovely town. One day we went to Cambridge which was about an hour away but well worth the trip. There are a few local supermarkets a Sainsburys, Morrisons and Asda about a 5 min drive in Hoddesdon.
Disliked: There were some negatives which the kids particularly felt. You can’t use the grass for playing or kicking a ball due to the amount of geese poo so the kids didn’t have a lot to do. We liked the geese who are a quirky presence, there are a lot of them but surprisingly they’re quite quiet. There were bees under the decking of our safari tent which meant we couldn’t open the tent door as our teens would have a meltdown. It’s a difficult one as you’re in the heart of nature but it did impact on our stay as it seemed to be a hive as the bees were coming back with pollen. The safari tent was a little tired looking and the mattresses weren’t very comfortable as I could feel the springs and the outdoor furniture could be replaced. We had to have one of them up against the wall as it tipped over when sitting on it. Overall it was a great value stay for us as a family of 5 working out at only £14 per...
Read moreMy wife and i recently stayed for a week in May in the Riverside Cottage at Lee Valley Caravan Park. After a 3 hour drive we arrived at reception which also doubled up as a small shop. We quickly checked in and was given the keys to our cottage. The cottage is just across the road from the reception so we just pulled onto the private drive and closed the gates. The car stood there for the remainder of the week.||Inside the cottage we were treated to a large bottle of Prosecco and a box of chocolates which was a nice touch. You enjoyed a large living room space with both a 2-seater and 3-seater settee. You get the standard large flat screen TV and large windows looking out at the private back garden and canal. There is also a door giving you access to the garden from the living room. |In the kitchen there is plenty of storage space and you get all the mod cons for self catering. There is a large fridge freezer including water dispenser and also a washing machine should you want to wash your clothes before going home. In addition to the large double bedroom there was also a twin bedroom with clean towels and dressing gowns provided and a dining room that felt a little strange being at the totally opposite end of the cottage to the kitchen so not the best design. Finally there was a beautiful shower room with an amazing shower and a separate toilet. ||Thanks to some beautiful weather we managed to chill on our private decking overlooking the canal at the bottom of the garden for 2 days. It was even too hot to use the hot tub in the daytime and this had to wait until the evenings when the temperatures had dropped. On day 3 we did wake up to a bit of a cooler and cloudier day, so we decided to make the short 15 min walk across the road to Dobbs Weir. This is overlooked by a lovely pub called the Fish and Eels. We didn't use the pub ourselves but it was in a beautiful spot overlooking the canals, ideal for a quiet meal or just a drink. We carried on our walk a bit further passing the canal boats before reaching Dobbs Lock and a nearby Lake which you could walk around. I never imagined you could find such a quiet relaxing area so close to London. Its an ideal place to stay if you want to drop into the city for a day or like us just make use of the quiet surroundings. I'm no bird enthusiast but even i found myself just enjoying watching the birds fly around the canal area or just swimming past the garden with their babies in tow. ||I would definitely recommend this place and we will also plan to go back sometime ourselves as soon as my wife is ready to make the 3 hour journey...
Read moreStayed here for a weekend, family of 5 (3 children under 8) |Had a lovely time in the safari tent! Everything was spotless clean in the tent, it was well equipped (part from it needs a sink with running water) no spiders or insects at all to be found which made the kids happy! ||It rained the first day, quite heavy, but even inside the tent, didn’t really hear it! |The whole atmosphere was nice, quiet, everyone was friendly who was staying there. ||Cons:||The plastic bed coverings are SOO loud when turning in the night!! |There was only 1 heater in the tent which the output kw is too small to heat a car let alone a tent! ||To make the tent perfect, it needs a sink with running water, even if it’s only cold water, it’ll be much better when preparing food, brushing teeth, or just washing hands! ||There’s a gate that leads to a “river walk” located behind the safari tents, however, the gate is not large enough for buggies, bike or wheelchairs to pass through. |They call it a river walk, but you can’t even see the water, and the path ends abit 300yrds down which then brings you back on to the camp site…. |We couldn’t find any actual walks which were suitable for buggies within the site. ||There’s no actual drinking water on the site that would pass health and safety. |We were pointed out where the taps are where the caravans refill. |No covers / protectors around them at all and with the amount of geese that are constantly on the site, which we also witness drinking from the tap, we got put off it straight away and ended up getting bottled water from Morrisons 5mins away. ||While mentioning of the geese, the amount of geese POO on site is a major downfall for this holiday. |We have a 1 yr old who constantly is on the floor playing, but here, you cannot let this happen at all. |They really need to do something to try and prevent the geese from being on the grass areas, it ruins the holiday for families with young children. Constantly stepping it in, bringing it in the tents without realising, in the car, everywhere!! |The grass is LITERALLY covered in it. ||Part from them bad points, it was a nice get away. |We will still be returning (when the youngest can properly walk without constantly...
