.Don't get me wrong, it is a good park. But I think it could be much more...

Drinkwater isn't an ornamental park, it's a natural park. Pretty much left to its own devices. And for that it's getting pretty decent. Newly planted trees next to the prison are coming along very nicely. Great new paths here and there. It's even got a number of football pitches despite there being a sports centre a short stroll down Littleton Road.

But it's what this park doesn't provide that brings my score down.

It has a good size carpark. Shame it's inaccessible most of the week. So people have to park on the entrance or on Rainsough Brow instead. Genius!

There used to be a little skateboard park. It was pitifully small. But at least it was there. But with neglect, the authorities decided to remove it rather than maintain it. Bet the local kids love that!

Motorbikes are not allowed in the park. Why? Personally I don't own a bike and no desire to own one either. But I can understand why those that do would like to use it. And let's be honest, there's buckets of room by the motorway where a keen scrambler and mountain biker could have massive fun without bothering anyone. Just provide a legal means to access the land at the far side. Brilliant, a park for all!

That's why only...

Why 4 stars drinkwater is an absolutely fantastic place for families and dog walkers its a good 4.5-hour walk if you have the mind to do it all, you have to be careful with your dogs as there are stables near by and they do ride around the park and my lad thinks he can play with them but I normally go early morning to avoid the horses the only problem with the park is the lack of seating so of you have arthritis then it's not for you I have managed to locate one bench that I use and gives the dog a 3 hour walk I would love to go further into the park bit with out a resting place it's not possible. But if your a young fitish person with a family it's an excellent...

Used to spend all of the summer hols fishing here as a kid, now spend lots of time taking good long walks with my dogs around here. The paths are much better than they used to be, and you can easily have a 5k walk without seeing the same path twice. The lake has now been taken on by Salford Friendly Anglers who are doing their level best and a damn good job to return it to its former glories. Lots of nature to see here such as deer, rabbit, buzzards, kestrels, swans, geese etc etc. Only wish some of the visitors would take their litter back to the bins with them, pretty sure it’s...

Very small car park with a couple of bins. Only saw 1 other bin in the park. No toilets, an odd bench and picnic bench. Nice place for a walk and leads onto other parks so you can easily adjust how far you go. Paths are clearly marked on Google Maps. It is possible for dogs to have a swim but pick your spot as some were quite dirty. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife. We came quite close to a heron. Main paths are pram and wheelchair friendly and it is all pretty flat.

Drinkwater Park is a place of peace and memory, full of wild beauty and still waters that reflect the sky like a dream. 🌳✨ It’s not just a walk — it’s a sanctuary where you can think, breathe, and feel connected to nature. Every path, every bridge, every ripple tells a story. A true hidden treasure for anyone who wants to step out of the noise and into something timeless. 💜

Nice spot for a quiet walk or run, especially early in the morning. Decent mix of open space, woods, and paths by the water. Good access to the river and some scenic bits along the Irwell Sculpture Trail. Not much in terms of facilities though. No toilets or café, and bins can be limited. Great if you want a bit of nature close to Manchester without big crowds.
