I love this place. Uninterrupted views on a clear day of Sheppy, the WW2 sea forts, the far off Essex coast and the distant wind farm rotating away. One can follow the view around to Hampton and see the end of Herne Bay pier standing sentinel and lonely. Gulls hover overhead riding the thermals before banking away back out to sea or chat with their mates atop the slippery breakwaters. At this times of year (February), the peace is glorious. Little traffic, the occasional dog walkers, joggers or random souls either on prom below or the pavement beside the road running parallel to the slopes. Benches and shelters, loo's and an ice cream booth, it is all here. If you are a lover of peace, serenity and a sense of scale,...

A lovely area by the beach. At the top is a wide grassed area with plenty of seating and a cafe at each end. The slopes that lead down to the beach are areas of wild grass type land and have purposely been left this way as there are rare moths and other creatures. There are walkways down to the pebbled beach and a promenade to walk along. There are loads of colourful beach huts and the area seems popular with kayak and canoe users. There are no amusements here other than the beauty of nature but there are a couple of pubs along the road. There are also toilet facilities at either end. Parking is roadside and free. Disabled access to the promenade is available via slopes at...

Tankerton is a little village (street), in between The Hampton, Herne Bay and Whitstable, Kent. The panoramic view of the North sea and abstract cloudy skies are breathtaking. Especially between January and December. I think it's classed as an estuary. Anyway, it's stunning. Loads to do. You can walk for miles along the beach and find quiet spots, drift wood for your art projects and shells for your soap, incense or an ashtray for your Berkeley menthol fags. I'm from Scunthorpe originally (know what I mean), but I've been here 20 years now. It is literally like living on another planet. If you catch ma drift....

A picturesque haven akin to the views at Leigh-on-Sea, without the boutique shops but with a castle. Visited on a hot sunny day amidst school holidays, there were still ample peaceful benches to admire colourful huts, the pebble beach, and sunset. Enough space for a kick around and surprisingly tidy toilets. Cash-only SeaView Cafe nearby (10-15min walk to the Tesco cash point). Dog walkers aplenty. Our day featured a £2 Mr. Whippy delight from the ice cream van – a sunny holiday vibe. Friendly folk, keen on eye contact and hellos. 🌞🌊🏖️

Grass bank home to rows of colourful beach huts, offering pleasant coastal views over the pebble beach below. On a clear evening you can see very a dramatic sunset over the sea. Worth walking out on The Street when the tide is out and looking back at the beach huts for a different perspective on the slopes. Accessible short walks into Whitstable or longer walks towards Herne Bay. Plenty of free parking along the road (can be hard to find a space in peak season and on sunny days). Cafés and public toilets at regular intervals.
