My mum took my son and they raved about how good the vegan cake was. My daughter whoâs 12 has egg allergy, so we thought this would be the perfect place for my birthday treat as she could be involved and have cake⌠there where 5 adults, 2 boys and 2 babies all going to eat and drink. I asked if the vegan cake was suitable for my daughter. The person came back over and explained that everything in store could have touched something with egg. Other than the soy ice cream that was at the bottom of the freezer. I asked if they would allow me to buy my daughter a free from cake from across the street and allow her to eat it in store while we all ate and drank there food. He replied with I would prefer you not to! So unfortunately we all left. How would it be fair for me to allow a 12 year old to eat soy ice cream that he basically described as lost at the bottom of the freezer while we ate cake. Absolutely no customer service or care for my 12 year old who they said âapparently has allergiesâ her allergies require her to carry epi pens! They have lost not just my custom but all of my familyâs too! I am disappointed and disgusted that they could treat a child so disrespectfully when her allergies are not her fault! Never have I ever been to a place that was less then accommodating. So thank you for making my daughter feel absolutely rubbish and like she puts people out because of allergies. Congratulations! As I can not respond to your response I have edited my review to add, how rude you was. There was absolutely no Vegan Cake as your waiter had explained she had no idea if it was made in a factory with other cakes made with egg. You did not on this day take her allergies seriously, or provide her with an alternative. I will be looking into how to complain further, now you have told me that you SHOULD be taking this seriously and into consideration. Which you did not! As you can probably see I donât leave reviews anywhere often but I ensure I left you one, so nobody else felt the same as my daughter and me did in that day! Obviously I asked if I could buy her an alternative and bring to your shop so we could continue to have the other things we ordered! Why else would I ask to bring alternative food for her if you could provide something! What a stupid response you gave! We wouldnât have left a review or left it was as...
Read moreThis place melted my heart! We were staying at a local hotel who highly recommended The Bears to us during a little well needed family break⌠it did not disappoint!! The whole place has such a beautiful unique charm, we went in for a bit of lunch before we started our return journey home⌠and I went in to look at the cakes, but was blown away by all of the interesting gorgeous items that fill the place! If I didnât have a train to catch, Iâd probably still be looking around! My son, who is visually impaired, has high functioning autism and ADHD was looking around in wonder - the young lady who was waiting the tables was so beautifully patient and kind toward him and helped explain every item without batting an eyelid! He chose such a fantastic cool money box to bring home, and I also found some really unique items myself â¤ď¸ We ordered some food which was amazing!!! I highly recommend the Cumberland sausage sandwich - it was next level!! The prices are brilliant for the amount you get and the quality!! Unbeatable! We then met the lovely Peter who was so cheerful and accommodating to us all, including our little dachshund⌠we all felt so relaxed and welcome đ nothing was too much trouble or stress! Our only negative is that we didnât find this gem sooner - we all agreed that we will be returning again to tankerton, especially to The Bears! If you truly appreciate a place that is built with love, has so much charm and uniqueness, delicious food, lovely staff, and a nice unusual souvenir to take home on top - then this place is perfect for you!! A really special establishment that has...
Read moreWe were visiting Whitstaple but we could not find the perfect location for lunch, so we drove a short distance to Tankerton. In fact we could have walked, it's not that far. Anyway, we were very pleased we had done so because we found The Bears Trading Cafe. What a gem. We were welcomed and chose to sit out in the garden. The garden was over flowing with plants everywhere , but sadly they are coming to the end of their lives soon. The menu is extensive but we both knew what we wanted as we had looked before going in. I had the BLT on brown seeded bread with salad , side salad and a generous helping of crisps. Not cheap crisps either. It was delicious , and a good size too. My wife had the fish finger , salad and crisps on the same bread. Equally delicious. Served in a timely fashion with a Ginger beer from the extensive drinks menu. The cakes looked gorgeous too and plenty of choice . The cafe / shop was very welcoming, stuffed with Bears of course. The staff were very friendly and we stopped to chat with them when we left and dicuss where the bread came from as it was so delicious. My only regret is that we live 100 miles away. Thanks for a...
