Very good factory tour for about £15 for 2 adults and 2 children. There was a good introductory video about the history of the family run company and then you went into the rock room. The guide was very good at explaining and all the staff answered all the questions in detail and were very friendly. Around the tour there were little sample sweets you could try. We also did the rock rolling for an extra £1.50 each and considering a piece of rock that size would cost at least £2 in a shop, you got the experience of watching them assemble it, rolling it yourself and having it customised with an initial of your choice it was really good and well worth it. After watching them make rock, and the process of creating and rolling, you move on through the factory. After that there’s the history of rock/John Bull, followed by the chocolate section, and packaging machine for boiled sweets in the centre.
Gets a bit confusing where to go after the boiled chocolate section, and to be honest there’s a general lack of direction in the place, we walked through a couple of doors after that we weren’t 100% sure were part of the tour, but they were. A little more direction and updated signage etc would probably help, but this wouldn’t put me off going again.
It can get very busy and this doesn’t help with keeping up where you’re going, but it’s a nice place and not too expensive!
Gift shop is great and has a lot of factory misshapes/rock ends,...
