I visited Goodwood House on Monday 28th April with my mother for the Afternoon Tea and Tour at 15:00pm. It was a delightful afternoon and everyone was so polite and kind.
We had an issue finding the entrance to begin with due to the main one currently being under construction. There was no signage nor information on the website that work was being done nor how to approach from a different way. It was our first visit and after driving around for 25 mins on the estate, asking the golfers who also weren't sure how to get in, we managed to have enough phone signal to call the ticket office. The helpful young man on the phone guided us in which was great. The other entrance is immediately on the left after Goodwood Hotel.
Consequently, we missed our tour by 15 mins but managed to join the next one. Cameron was our tour guide and he was just fantastic. He is so knowledgeable and full of whimsical facts and anecdotes and knows his history. He made it entertaining and could answer all our questions. The curation of 300 paintings and artifacts is excellently put together and there are some very beautiful pieces and rooms. It was lovely being immersed back in time via the furniture and enjoying all those things that we do not have in our every day lives. I could have spent much longer studying everything in greater detail.
The tour ended with the tea in the ballroom and the staff were friendly, welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. I had requested a gluten free tea and they delivered and it tasted amazing. You get quite a lot and probably more than I am used to eating in one sitting but all of it was delicious. A large pot of tea (selection of teas available), 4 sandwiches, 4 patisserie pieces and a warm scone with clotted cream and jam. The jam tasted home made. I couldn't fault the service nor food. For the price it was an excellent afternoon out and I can only recommend it. If you live locally you absolutely need to visit and for those further afield Goodwood offers a great insight into local Chichester life but also the important role it played in history and still plays being the home of the Duke of Richmond.
Thank you to the entire staff of Goodwood House for looking after us and making our first visit really delightful! I look forward to...
Read moreAlthough we didn’t go inside the Goodwood House, we saw it up close and it looked gorgeous… We were there for the annual Festival of Speed.
I mean, it’s GOODWOOD ! It’s that time of the year where even adults feel like children ! The excitement in the air, the adrenaline rushing through your veins, the marshals asking you to step aside while million pound cars just casually drive past you, the future in front of you, vintage cars with a rich legacy on display and looking at bikes that make your inner voice scream like vocal to a deafening decibel !
You see bikes and cars that’ve actually won nail biting, sitting at the edge of your seat kind of legendary races that we’ve watched on TV or have been lucky enough to watch live when we were growing up.. you can touch history ! You look at that bike and say, I remember that death wobble and how this rider saved it or that spin out and how that driver saved it. You’re literally stood next to something that was being driven or ridden by LEGENDS !!! How fortunate are some of us to be standing, touching, reliving the excitement of these races ! You see these lethal machines working, maintained and still roaring with all their might and glory. It sends chills down my spine every time I hear an engine screaming and watch a car or bike zoom past. Bonus points, you get to see / meet icons like Verstappen or Mr. Koenigsegg or Alonso or Riccardo or Max Chilton and so many more !
You can tell my excitement is REAL and it NEVER fades.. I could NEVER get bored of coming here ! It’s like coming home, you look forward to it ! It’s your comfort zone. It’s where you feel most at peace !
This year, Rolls Royce gave us the opportunity to enjoy another year of true passion and emotion ! The ride to and from the venue was so amazing.
At the venue, we got to see and feel the new Cullinan and it was an absolute BEAUTY. If you want classic perfection, that’s your next buy. What a car !!!! We were left speechless !
THANK YOU Rolls and THANK YOU Goodwood...
Read moreThe Goodwood Festival of Speed is an absolute must for petrol heads! From rally cars to hyper cars to formula e and formula 1 cars to production cars - they are all there. Cars you would normally never see let alone get to touch and see being driven at speed around the track! Motorbikes, old and new, putting on a performance too. Lots of sporting personalities like rally drivers, formula 1 drivers, motor company seniors like managers and heads etc etc. Lots of food and drink stalls, helicopter rides, and stuff to do for the children too. See the forest rally if you have the time - Good fun. Various levels of tickets, get one which at least includes the grandstands as you can then relax and sit down in the stands - it gives you access to several stands around the circuit - while watching the exotic super cars blast past and go "up the hill" (otherwise you'll have to remain standing at every event and by the end of the day trust me this can get quite tiring!!). There's also shops for merch from your favourite supercar companies (eg. McLaren, Mercedes etc etc). Stands for the sale of private classic cars too. Something for every petrol head!...
