An interesting area of the Peak District, with dramatic rock formations providing opportunities for climbing and sightseeing, and history close by. Good views over the surrounding countryside on a clear day. At the foot of Cratcliffe is the Hermit's Cave, a small cave protected behind railings, notable for a well preserved carving of the crucifixion which may date back to the 1500s. Accessing the rocks and cave involves negotiating some moderately steep and narrow paths on loose ground, so requires a bit of care. The wooded setting means the cave's location isn't immediately obvious. There's a small layby at the side of the nearby road providing free parking for a few vehicles. Read moreCracking views when you get to the top. No climbing need to reach the top but I suppose the more adventurous could do some scrambling to make the visit more, ahem, exciting. We are not of that type so we just followed the well worn path and reached the top with ease. It’s a short walk from Robin Hoods view, so both the same day is very easy.
