We have been for a meal at the Red Lion, have had a take out for the family and we have had their take out pizza.

The meals are not just bog standard pub meals. There is lovely selection of meals to choose from and they are each made with an eye to detail in terms of presentation and taste. Fresh herbs and delicious flavour combinations. The staff are very polite and efficient.

Their home made bread is delicious and expect proper olives if you choose them for your starter.

With lockdown we have had a family take away too. Everything is boxed in paper recyclable boxes. The meals were of the same excellent standard as when we went for dinner at the pub. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals!

We tried their wood fired pizza last Saturday and again were not disappointed! Pizza is our favourite meal and they were delicious. The pizzas were very big so the girls and I had pizza for lunch the next day too. It had lovely fresh herbs on it and the crust is exactly like I have had in Italy on holiday.

As a family we wholeheartedly recommmend the staff and the food at...

What a wonderful little local pub. I booked ahead of our visit and during the booking process heard from the Team advising me that Thursdays are theme nights for food and I was offered a preview of the Italian night menu, which was great. Well suffice to say we were absolutely blown away by the fantastic food and delicious drinks on offer. The 3 couse set meal was utterly outstanding, my hubby isn't a fan of Italian food but he's completely changed his opinion after our meal here! Thank you for that 😀.

The staff are incredibly friendly and even the locals make you feel welcome. What a pleasant, refreshing experience in a local pub. The residents of Birchover are so lucky to have The Red Lion and its Team. Hopefully we'll stay at Barn Farm again and definitely visit again. In the meantime I'll be recommending to...

The star of the show is Bircher Best. What a fabulous pint, brewed on site. A creamy smooth amber ale that went down perfectly after walking the moors in the snow. We were first to be served at the carvery today. I had the beef, very tender and a nice flavour. The veg were perfectly cooked with a little bite to them, not a soggy mess you often see in a carvery. Nice rich gravy. There was disappointment in the pork my partner had, she eat it without complaint but I sampled a piece and it was very dry. I would have liked a good horseradish instead of the creamy goo that was on offer. Additional added Sunday evening. I forgot to add that the Bakewell tart we had for desert was fantastic too. Pleased that the pub replied to my review, just to clarify overall this was a very pleasant lunch and we will...

Visit last night was very quiet with two other couples eating. Not a large menu but a good selection of pub favourites at a reasonable price. We went for a very tasty lambs liver, mustard mash and seasonal veg with gravy. Followed by sticky toffee pudding and homemade Bakewell tart with custard. They also brew their own beer on site and they allowed you to have a taster, settled on two pints of Bircher best. Best to book as during the summer both local pubs are well supported by locals and many tourists. Well recommended.

What an amazing little gem in the heart of Derbyshire. The service was good and offers locally brewed beers and as a non beer lover I would say it is worth the try to see of you like it (ask var staff for a sample). I have attached some pictures of this beautiful setting. Book a table or get walk in service and has card pavement facilities. Family friendly, walker friendly and dog friendly. Perfect for a local walk and retreat to here on return. Add me on Instagram: diggerdazzler

Fantastic food, the menu has some great dishes on and specials are also good. My wife had the blackened Cajun chicken and Jambalaya with Peri-Peri oil, I had the Sunday roast beef dinner, with Yorkshire pudding, gravy, roast potatoes, new potatoes, slice of carrot, red cabbage with orange, cabbage and peas. The food was amazing, I recommend booking, dog friendly outside and in the tap room. Micro brewery on site with a great choice of ales, very friendly staff.
