Myself, Daughter and Granddaughter visited on a very wet day a few days ago. We had decided a Cultural Visit would be just the thing how wrong were we. Firstly we were not advised re the headphones however we enjoyed looking at the exhibits behind Reception we then went into the Library which is beautiful the soft furniture had ropes across but the Refrectory table and benches did not as an avid reader I wanted to look at the titles of the books lower down I therefore sat on one of the benches for a good few mins before being very rudely approached and spoken to like a naughty child by a young Woman!! No need for the telling off put up signs requesting not to sit there. We then left the Library and went into the Red House to be greeted by what I can only describe as an officious jobsworth Woman who made us feel like Burglars! She was not informative at all just spoke about what she thought would have occurred in each room. As an aside the overshoes you are made to wear are extremely dangerous especially for older people far too large and slippery, I ended up changing into the blue plastic ones. We were not told there was an opportunity to view upstairs either although to be honest we couldn't wait to leave. The so called Croquet Lawn was full of uneven lumps and bumps, clearly the flower beds in Spring and Autumn would be lovely. All in all not a friendly place to visit. I wiuld not recommend to anyone. We then visited Moot Hall which was a delight full of really interesting information well laid out and two lovely approachable Guides well...
Read moreAbsolutely great little museum with a fantastic collection of artworks hanging in the house, as well as a really interesting exhibit on Britten and Pears, plus access to the gardens and his composing studio. The museum staff were incredibly friendly and happy to have us and we even managed to get a tour of the upstairs bedrooms from a lovely guide who showed us all the amazing artworks and gave some background about the house. For me, the highlight of this place was definitely the paintings - so many great 20th century pieces collected by Britten and Pears. Well...
Read moreWe were on holiday in Aldeburgh, and the visit to the Red House was one of the main highlights of our time there, being great fans of Britten's music and life story. The warm welcome and relaxed atmosphere created by the staff and volunteers was memorable. They explained that a party was due so we would not be able to have a guided tour that day, but we were given vouchers to return within a year. We then thoroughly enjoyed walking around the gardens, studio and library. We are returning on holiday in May, so it's no surprise that the Red House is...
