Butts Brow, located near Eastbourne in the South Downs National Park, offers breathtaking panoramic views of the coastline and rolling hills. It's a fantastic spot for hiking, picnicking, or simply enjoying the fresh air. The well-maintained trails make it ideal for walkers, cyclists, and even horse riders, while the peaceful surroundings provide a perfect escape from the town below. On a clear day, you can see as far as Hastings. Whether you're a nature enthusiast or just looking for a quiet retreat, Butts Brow is a must-visit destination in East Sussex. Perfect place for landscape photography.

With a local residents pass, parking is free. Always a plus There are walks in every direction with views over Eastbourne to Hastings...and even France on a very clear day In other directions you can see all the way over to Beachy Head, East Dean, Arlington reservoir and North as far as the Heathfield ridge. It's very dog friendly, but there are sheep grazing so best to keep dogs on leads at times.

This has to be one of the most spectacular areas of East Sussex. The South Downs rolling away with views over Eastbourne and coastline. Memorial to WW2 fallen US Air Force personnel of the "Ruth-Less" which crashed into the hillside here. Great hiking area.

I've lived in Eastbourne for 30 yrs. I am very familiar with Butt's Brow. By road it can be eached by a tarmac road leading to a gravel pay and display carpark. Lovely, views and some fairly level walking along the ridge of the South Downs but some steep hills in all directions. Busy/very busy most of the time due to its ease of access and simple walks. I tend to avoid Butts Brow for this reason but great if you just want parking and a simple walk and don't mind sharing...

A memorial to the 10 men of a USAF B-24D Liberator Bomber ''RUTH-LESS'', who died on 2nd February 1944, after a bombing raid into Europe. Having receiving damage from enemy attack the aircraft crashed into high ground in low cloud as the crew desperately attempted to reach the emergency airfield at Friston. The memorial marks the spot the aircraft struck the ground, just 30 feet from the highest point and tragically just a few miles from the safety of...
