We had a pleasant few hours here as a planned stopover on way to Devon, staying in Bridgwater. I did a lot of research into beaches in the area, as I didn’t realise so many would be muddy due to the huge tidal variations, having never been to the beach in Somerset before.

The tides make a big difference but if you check the tide times online you will be fine. We arrived between high and low tide and managed to get nearly an hour playing in the water before it got too muddy. I wanted to get there earlier but we left home later than planned! There were lifeguards there on the day we visited. We then went back up to the top of the beach to set up camp, have our picnic, play games, build sandcastles, have ice creams etc. It is definitely worth taking windbreakers and/or beach tent.

We parked on the beach for £8, which was a novelty and well worth it! It was quite windy when we left and glad to have had the car to hand!

We didn’t go up as far as the National Trust bit at the end, which I would have liked to explore, but for first-timers we made the most of it. Toilets were basic and surprisingly clean near the entrance to the beach. No other facilities eg cafe at that point that I saw though. Ice cream van drives up and down the beach (also selling coke and water as cold drink options) but be careful of overcharging/wrong change as I experienced myself and saw with another...

I am a local and this is my favourite place in this area.

Beautiful beach and natural pier. You can take your dog. There are rocks to climb, sometimes rock pools. I think you have to pay to park but motorbikes and scooters are free. You can climb Brean Down and go to the end where there is an old ruin of a church. If you take your dog up keep it on a lead as too many have fallen off in the past because they run loose. It has amazing views. Take your own food because the cafe is expensive. You can stop on the way to Brean Beach at the local shop in town and pick up sandwiches and drinks there for a lot less. It is a lovely place to visit but DON'T WALK OUT TO FAR WHEN THE TIDE IS OUT AS YOU WILL GET STUCK IN THE MUD. THIS IS NOT A FUNNY THING TO DO FOR A LAUGH. YOU WILL GET STUCK AND YOU WILL SINK DOWN. THE TIDE COMES IN REALLY FAST AND IF YOU ARE STUCK YOU WILL DROWN. It has happened repeatedly but people still don't listen. Have a great day there and enjoy the natural sun trap and or the climb or just the sea and the sand, just be safe. Stick to the edges of the down and don't walk out too far when the...

Now Brean has really nailed it! A super clean beach and dog friendly. Cafés, ice cream, cream teas, coffee, outside water taps for dog water, shower to hose off before the car ride home and WC. They really have thought it through and our day out here was full of holiday fun. Our walk up to Brean Down fort yielded amazing views and the circular route, including exploring, was 3.2 miles. After lunch, and a proper cup of coffee at the National Trust cafe, we played with Holly-dog in the sea and she enjoyed fetching the ball and running up and down the sands in what seemed to be a neverending game. We had arrived at 11:30 and left at around 4pm. The sea was reachable at 2:30pm when we were on the beach and high tide was 3:30pm. Tidal information was displayed at the entrance to the beach. Holly fell asleep as soon as she got into the car! A great day was had by all. Highly recommend this...

A long stretch of wide beach along dunes and cliffs. Lots of trails. The beach has a national trust car park rhat is chargeable at £6 unless a member then free. There was a little cafe that sold snacks and drinks with outside picnic areas with nice views. There are toilets, which were I hate to say, not in a good state. Sand everywhere understandably, but not very clean and being a national trust site I would of expected better. However the views were beautiful, and on a clear day you can see wales! The tide goes out along way so check tide times before arriving. There is a strong wind here so sand does literally get everywhere but I suppose that's expected from a beach. The water here is deemed not fit for swimming by the environment agency due to pollution and dangers from mudflats and sinking sands but the water is nice to look at and lovely to walk along as the sand is soft underfoot.
