I visited last week and unfortunately I did not have a pleasant experience. I was working with a disabled client, however, the door was not wide enough to fit a wheelchair through, so I politely asked if they could open the other door to let her in. Person on the till said yes, once shes finished serving current customers, which was great, so I thought. Whilst we were waiting to get in, about 7 or 8 more customers, went in around us and she continued to serve customers who arrived after my client. I reminded the server that my client was still waiting for the doors to be opened to even allow her entry into the cafe, and again was told she would come after serving this next customer, slightly annoyed as we did arrive before them but continued to wait, another 2 customers walked past us and I went in and asked if there was a reason for discriminating against my client and not allowing her entry into the cafe. The server then asked someone to open the door, which they did. Food was somewhat pricey, but was nice food. However, due to the poor customer service, I would not return to this venue, and would go to the teahouse, 2...
Read moreThis is by far and away the most unwelcoming National Trust cafe I have ever been to.
To understand why, I need first to mention that some National Trust cafes have stopped selling plastic bottles of water, which is fair enough. However, at something like £2.25 the "reusable" bottle you now get instead is very poor quality, particularly the lid which predictably hasn't lasted, rendering the bottle useless. But that's an issue I'll take up with the National Trust, rather than the cafe.
What was very poor was that after selling this supposedly reusable bottle, the staff in the cafe refused to refill it, suggesting instead that we use the tap in the public toilet that had a sticker saying "not drinking water" on it. So after a long, hot walk, we had to find somewhere else to quench our thirst. Happily the other cafe next door we're happy to provide...
Read moreBleak, overpriced and very disappointing. Considering that this is a National Trust cafe it's an outrage. Extraordinary set-up where you pay for your order at a counter at the front then have to collect from the rear. I asked for a jug of hot water to accompany my tea and the server grunted disapprovingly. Pounds 2.70 for a poxy tea bag in an unwarmed china pot. Disgraceful. No menu as such just pasties at 7.50 (shocking) . Maybe it's because the clientele is not the usual Middle Class that the National Trust overcharge so well at other locations that they get away with it but it's a dreadful shame. Poor staff having to work in Eastern European communist circumstances. What a contemptuous way for the NT ti treat the public and their members. It could be...
