North Weald Airfield Museum is the most exceptional WWII Battle of Britain museum in the UK. growing up in the 1970's & 1980's 'Reach for the Sky was a big childhood favourite and this museum joins the dots on Group Captain Douglass Bader like no other. Amazing photos. This museum packs a weighty punch on its knowledge, location and history of North Weald. For its size the museum does not disappoint, 2nd only to Duxford museum. In The Battle of Britain Hall of Fame, you will find North Weald in the top 5. This is the jewell in the crown, an unassuming location but a military genious in the UK. Everyone should visit this museum or its open days as it is the first stop in understanding our countries role in the second world war and the sacrifice of our airforces. If you like planes, like flying, like history or are a history buff, like Biggin Hill, North Weald Airfield Museum is an Essential part of the UK's Wartime History and Legacy. This place is awe inspiring. On the approach to the museum is a huge memorial. Lets stop and reflect of the scarifices that were made which the movies cannot fully do. Ab-Initio Verimus Caelum which means and in memorium to our heroes "From The Very Beginning to High In The Sky"....
Since this review was written 8 months ago and was one of the first few i carried out (as a google local guide) I have since introduced a personal score (up to 10) and an excellence award in the reviews i do; having come back to this review I feel that the Museum at North Weald should have these new entitlements.
The museum is the actual Royal Air Force Commanding Officers Headquaters from North Weald Aerodrome and sat adjacent to the aerodromes original entrance; which part of that was sold post war for development and now the museum appears seperate from the aerodrome (modern day).
My personal score is 10/10 & I also Award North Weald Airfield Museum my Gold Star for Excellence.
North Weald Airfield Museum kindly permitted me exclusive rights for my photos used in...
Read moreReally great little museum. £5 for adults. Kids are free. Lots of interesting items (all donated by local people) covering the entire history of North Weald Airfield, mainly the RAF but also US and Canadian pilots based there during WWII. Guy on the desk seemed very knowledgeable and keen to share that knowledge. I got the feeling they need the support of visitors to survive after the pandemic forced them to until mid 2021. If you're nearby, make sure you drop in. Went there with my mother in law and my 8 year old daughter, who said: "I really like the little...
Read moreWow, what a fantastic place, the guy on the desk was great and who knew you could cram so much history into one small historic building? The history was fascinating and showed how important the airfield was in its operational years. With even some interesting books taken away. Finally the museum is not temporarily closed, check with the museum directly for the...
