Getting there means having to travel around the taxiway watching out for aircraft travelling around. Be prepared. Essentially, continue past Wings Cafe on your left and go all the way around until travelling in the other direction.
Rosey Lea is very clean, tables are well spaced and the outdoor area offers a great view of the taxiway so interesting to sit there watching the activity.
The staff, whilst a little inexperienced (think walking past a vacated or even occupied table and not clearing off dishes) are all very friendly and charming. There is a good mix of dishes for vegetarians, vegans and coeliacs.
The food was quite good and tasty. Asked for some Tabasco or chilli sauce and initially told there was only chilli jam (aka chutney) but the waiter did locate something which was really very, very good.
If you go for tea, there is a large range and cakes on offer with GF options.
A negative was the serving of sweet potato chips, although perfectly cooked, being exorbitantly overpriced at £6.50 and even made worse by the portion size. No normal potato chips are on offer.
It would be great if a few of the tables outside offered umbrellas for those who cannot be in the direct sunshine for too long.
Overall, quite a pleasant place and we would...
Read moreTo find the cafe you have to enter the airfield by the control tower. There is a barrier. We drove past it a couple of times looking for it. The man gave us a map of the airfield and we loved being able to see all the aircrafts. There is x3 cafes to choose from once on the airfield. Wings cafe with seating inside and outside. No frills, x2 play parks, limited view of runway. Rosey Lea - loose leaf tea, China and up market, seating inside and out and a view of the runway. Red Bus Cafe- take away and outside seating.
Rosey Lea- it's stunning inside and out. Up market and the prices and quality reflects this. Wish we had lunch here instead of the Wings cafe lol. We had tea which was loose leaf in a bone China tea pot, mini milk jug and cup and saucer. Cakes looked delicious, my son had a brookie (half brownie half cookie) and my husband had a slice of Biscoff. Both were huge and delicious. Service was friendly and prompt and it's table service. The garden area is fenced in and perfect for kids to explore with a view of the...
Read moreI basically grew up at north Weald airfield spending many weekends with my dad and siblings in the squadron. I was so sad to see the pub and memorabilia ripped out and replaced with a new aesthetically pleasing slightly overpriced café.
I’ve been twice now. Once with a group of around 20 and once with just my brother. The first time was ok, staff seemed friendly and the afternoon tea was wonderful (especially as I am vegan). My second visit however was less desirable.
The girl who gave us the menus never came to take our order. I had to go inside to order. The service was slow and lacked any kind of engagement or even a smile. I didn’t feel welcome there at all which is so sad considering how many years I spent in that pub and old cafe that was next door.
This place meant so much to so many people and I think the staff lack the respect of the area and the returning guests that have been going there for decades. The food was lovely but to not receive the friendly warm welcome and service so many of us were used to is a big...
