A delightful museum housed in 17th Century buildings with a mix of period rooms and a large number of local history exhibits and displays, mostly maritime, that range from Roman times right up to the very recent discovery, in the Arctic, of the wreck of 'HMS Terror' a 19th Century, Topsham-built ship. The entire establishment is run and staffed by volunteers, which would explain the warm and welcoming feel of the museum. There is a busy tearoom that specialises in home-made food, two immaculate gardens to relax in and a shop that sells Topsham-orientated memorabilia, local history publications and gifts. Free to visit with lots of interesting history about the area from all the friendly volunteers. Many different rooms to explore with fascinating exhibits.
They also have a cafe onsite that looked amazing. We didn’t try it on our visit but would make a second just to try it out. It looked like a lot of locals use it regularly.
