My family and I went for dinner here yesterday night and really wished we hadn't. My aunt ordered a crab risotto that had been sitting under the heating lamps so long that the top of the risotto was dry. Though this wasn't particularly appetising we weren't going to complain until she started eating and discovered that there was so much chilli in it that she couldn't taste the crab (and there wasn't supposed to be any chilli). Other members of our party tasted it and all came to the same conclusion. So we sent the dish back and asked for something else. The young waitress looking after our table was very lovely and handled the situation magnificently but then a senior member of staff got involved. She came to our table and in a very rude and condisending manner proceeded to give us a long lecture on how we were wrong. She came to the table again later and asked how our food was. I answered that my chicken wings were bloody (see the attached photo) and the delightful women proceed to lecture us again on their cooking procedures. I didn't see how that response was relevant or negated the presence of the blood in the meat. If she didn't actually want to know how our food was, she shouldn't have asked. Having worked in hospitality for years myself, the entire experience was shocking to me. Luckily, Topsham has a many other establishments that have well-trained and welcoming staff that serve lovely food that doesn't carry the risk...

I very rarely write reviews but I feel I must on this occasion. After many years of visiting this pub for meals with little problem last night’s experience was a disaster and very disappointing. The young lady allocated to look after us seemed very nervous and unsure of what she was doing. Drinks came reasonably quickly but she had to be summoned after 25 minutes to take our food order. We ordered a sharing platter of breads which came after a further 20 minutes and believe it or nor our main courses came out a further 60 minutes later. After many reminders about the delay we had no feedback as to the cause and a party of 6 who arrived after us had their meal 25 minutes before us. We were told at one point that our meals were ‘being plated up’ but did not appear for a further 20 minutes. They were not really apologetic and were very reluctant to accept any responsibility. They were very reluctant to reduce the bill but eventually did so. On the plus side we were happy with the food when it eventually came but the unacceptable delay really spoiled our evening. We will not be...

Extremely disappointing experience. We have been eating here for years and have always been delighted with the food and welcome. This visit I ordered the Mediterranean veg with pesto linguini. It was the most tasteless meal I have ever been served. We told the waiter when he asked - and he could see 70% of my meal was uneaten. When my husband paid the bill, not one penny was taken off the bill. The following day, my husband took some friends in for a drink. Mentioned the poor meal experience to the manager who dismissively said sorry but offered no refund. Even a free drink would have shown customer empathy. We will not be eating here again or recommending the venue to our customers from now on. We run a holiday let in Topsham. It's such a shame that a great venue is being ruined by appalling service and poor food. I'm very disappointed! Additionally we had to ask to move table before we ate as an elderly couple were arguing loudly next to us. Bicycles were also filling the disabled parking bay outside. Seemed like no- one was...

We had a lovely evening here in a very friendly, busy venue which is clearly a very popular place to be! Chelsea was so welcoming and helpful -a natural and a great host! We parked at Topsham Quay car park which is a five minute walk away. The food was perfect! We had the Dart Farm burger and the fish pie as mains and both meals were delicious. The sharing bread platter as a starter was very tasty indeed -an indulgent treat. We were too full for dessert - maybe next time! Our little dog Bramble was welcomed too and was rewarded with a tasty treat at the end of our meal - love finding dog-friendly places to go to., Very reasonable prices too. All in all a great start to our holiday - we will definitely return!

This is a brilliant place to come for a drink outside on a warm day or even if it is inside on a colder or wet day. There are plenty of seats over the road overlooking the river and small passenger ferry. Providing a lovely relaxed atmosphere. They do a selection of food and some great Ales and ciders too. As well as lagers wines and spirits as you may well expect. All well kept. The staff are really friendly and very helpful. You can reserve tables which could well be a great idea if you think ahead. The food looks good. It looks old inside, without appearing dated, which really adds to its character. Will certainly return next time I am in Topsham and recommend this place to all young and old alike.
