We walked from tintern through the tunnel then turned round after a brief stop the other side. The kids were a bit apprehensive on the way there. On the way back though were looking round more and having a great time. The path outside the tunnel between tintern was good and we saw lots of other walkers and cyclists. Some of the rails and sleepers are still around and the girls loved walking along them.

This is such a great experience. This tunnel forms part of a trail that will take you from Chepstow to Tintern. The tunnel is about 1.5 km long. The total distance from Chepstow to Tintern is 7 km. The lighting is low so stick to the left hand side in your walking direction. Visit Tintern for lunch and a pint and make your way back to Chepstow 👌.

What a great find and such a good walk from Tidenham through the Tidenham Tunnel and up to Tintern and back....Well worth a go if you've not done this one...Pick a day when the Old Mill Cafe in Tintern is open for that well earned treat....you will need it.Gem of a walk.

A great place to walk.

While the Greenway is accessible all year round be aware the opening hours for the tunnel change through the year and the diversion is significant.

Tunnel opening dates/times: 1 April - 30 April: 8am-6pm 1 May - 15 Aug: 7am-7pm 16 Aug - 30 Sep: 8am-6pm 1 Oct - 31 March: Closed
