How about?....two roses ( one white, one of Raby ): a man with two beards: a white boar: a falcon in a fetterlock: an octagonal tower: two gravity defying flying buttresses: a multicoloured pulpit with classic reredos all bound in a majestic, soaring, delicately sculpted building of austere, light filled beauty. And when finished toddle down to the castle mound where a Scottish lassy lost her "heed" and a wee doggy hid under her crimson skirts... and thence to the classy village pub for some suitable refreshment. Read moreVisited yesterday with my son and parents, it is a picturesque church, so wonderful and peaceful, with so much amazing history. Many thanks to the very knowledgeable church warden, Bill, who informed us of many amazing facts about Richard II, his parents and uncle, Lady Jane Grey, Mary Queen of Scots, the size of the church, what happened to it, who built it and also about mason marks. Within, there are information boards, regarding the kings & queens associated with the castle, and displays of local archeological finds. Some imposing headstones in the churchyard too.
