A big hoose I've always wondered about in the passing over the years as it lay nestled in the trees beside the M9, empty and sad. However, the hoose has been there far longer than the M9 and it's no longer sad, but a project and a half filled with enthusiastic volunteers determined to peel back the layers of historical material, interwoven with stories to bring a smile. Not just indoors though, the gardens and grounds have a merry band of gardeners working around the unicorn statue, growing fruit, veg and beautiful flowers that the resident bees feast on. But it's not just the bees having a nectar fest, you too can feast on the fruit and veg which can be purchased in the hoose. Then the fab shop which is well stocked with locally sourced, hand-made goods that are voluntarily donated. And of course the honey from the resident bees - it's a must. Read moreWhat a beautiful big old house with lots of original features that pleases me, the original wallpaper, fires, dressers and the ceilings are stunning I just can't imagine the workmanship that went into them. The whole experience of the ghost tour was good with some spooky stories in every room. The kitchen area had the most activity in it which are the two photos I took of the dresser one after the other but one has a sort of mist covering it 👻👻👻 who knows 😳 There were quite a few stairs to go up and down but then every room had some seats to rest upon although one lady sat on a wee stool thing and felt herself being pushed off it so you can imagine how quickly she got up on her feet lol. Read moreTremendous enthusiasm by the volunteers has transformed Bannockburn House and gardens. The site is now visitor friendly with a new car park and pathways around the house and gardens. Some work has been done inside the house too. New sash cords on windows, new curtains and some fresh wallpaper and paint. There are also new toilet facilities which are an important amenity for visitors The work inside has made the interior a bit brighter. There is still a lot of work to do in stabilising the structure before carrying out restoration on some of the major features such as ceilings.
