Glenfiddich Distillery, founded in 1887 by William Grant in Dufftown, is one of the most famous and iconic single malt Scotch whisky distilleries in the world. William Grant built the distillery by hand with his family, and within a year, the first spirit ran from the stills on Christmas Day 1887. The name ā€œGlenfiddichā€ means ā€œValley of the Deerā€, reflected in the stag logo and the surrounding Scottish Highland scenery.

Glenfiddich has remained family-owned for five generations, now operated by the Grant family, and has grown to become one of the largest single malt producers globally. The distillery sources its water from the Robbie Dhu springs and uses traditional copper pot stills and oak casks for maturation, creating a whisky celebrated for its fresh, fruity, and floral character, with rich complexity and smoothness. Glenfiddich pioneered innovation in the whisky industry, introducing single malt bottlings at a time when most malt whisky was sold for blends, helping elevate the reputation of single malts worldwide.

Visitor Experience: Glenfiddich Distillery is open to the public with an extensive visitor experience. Tours include guided exploration of the production process, maltings, mash tuns, and still house, culminating in whisky tastings. The distillery offers several tour packages, from basic tastings to exclusive, behind-the-scenes experiences, and even masterclasses on whisky blending. Facilities include a modern visitor centre, bar, and retail shop.

Why Visit: Visitors to Glenfiddich enjoy a combination of heritage, innovation, and scenic Highland surroundings. It’s perfect for whisky enthusiasts who want to experience a distillery with over 130 years of history, see traditional methods in action, and taste a range of expressions from classic 12-year-old single malt to rare, aged releases. Its Dufftown location offers a picturesque setting, making it one of Scotland’s most popular whisky tourism...

Great place, but not FULLY ACCESSIBLE/DISABLED/WHEELCHAIR FRIENDLY. I had booked four tickets in online, for a distillery tour, for our holiday as i could see they were selling fast. They were me (who needs wheelchair), my husband, and my two friends who live in Scotland. I did try to call a few times before I booked to get any information about disabled access as there was nothing on their website, but I was struggling to get through. After i had booked, i tried again, and I did get through. The staff member told me that there was a tiny portion of the tour that I would miss out on as it was not wheelchair accessible. My friend the one who lives in Scotland, visited the distillery about two weeks before i arrived to confirm what i was told. They told her the exact same thing.

Unfortunately, on the day, itself, i was told by the tour guide (who was lovely), that there was more than just a small section, that i would miss out on, but she would get someone to help wheel me around through accessible entrances/exits. The man who helped wheel me around was lovely and extremely helpful, but, i couldn't help but feel a tad separated from the tour group for some of the bits. (I appreciate that this couldn't be helped.) It was a bit disheartening. It was a pleasant tour, and good fun at the...

My wife and I came to Scotland this past Spring to take our own Scotch tour and had the pleasure of tasting scotch at 12 distilleries all throughout the Highlands and Speyside. Glenfiddich was the most complete experience and #1 on the list for when we return with a larger group next summer. The food, service, tour, gift shop and staff were incredible. We didn’t think we would get a tour since they weren’t accepting reservations online, but we went past to do our own tasting in the lounge and visit the gift shop. While we were in the middle of our own tasting from their long list of selections, we were informed that walk-up tours were happening! We ended up getting booked for one within the hour and it was super fun. At one point on the tour, we watched a dozen barrels of scotch get emptied and it was hard not to imagine a Willy Wonka moment. Pauly and Louise (and the super tall young man) were incredible! They really made the experience for us, and I hope they are available when we return. The staff in the gift shop were fantastic and we ended up buying a 15yr cask strength bottle that is now the pride of our broad Scotch collection, complete with my name on the bottle and logged into the book at the distillery. Highly recommend a visit, even if you can’t...

Family run, with charm and grace, and oh my, such good scotches. The Glenfiddich Whisky Lounge was the nicest place we stopped at to try scotch whisky. They do charge, from 4Ā£ to 36Ā£ per dram or 30Ā£ to over 100Ā£ for a flight of 4. You do get a very good pour, like 2 or 3 ounces (it was a larger pour than in an Edinburgh pub!). They have comfortable seating areas, and they put the bottle down in front of you with your dram so you know what you are drinking. They have a great variety of Glenfiddich whiskies, along with their sister Balvenies. The 30Ā£ flight of the 12, 15, 18, and 21 year of Glenfiddich is a good intro. I personally enjoyed the 15 the best and I am glad I bought the bottle there as I haven't found it elsewhere. The Balvenie Tun was my husband's favorite. We tried the cake - I thought I was getting a wee tea cake, but turned out to be the grandest dessert of our entire trip - I highly recommend the cherry šŸ’ sponge cake 🄮 wit buttercream. As we left, the gave us a spot of Grand Cru on the house, which was a great bad thing for us as it became my new favorite but runs 220Ā£ a bottle (compared to 60Ā£ to 120Ā£ for others!).
