Whenever we have been up to Keith visiting family The Heritage Railway had stopped running due to time of year, so coming a different time was a good opportunity to go on it. Keith station is a beautiful station, well looked after and well run. You can buy your tickets direct from the ticket office either on the day or prebook for the next as I did (open days trains run) or on line where you swap the paper ticket at the ticket office before embarking. We boarded the train, loads of seating and headed for Dufftown which takes around 40 minutes travelling at a lovely slow speed so you are able to enjoy the scenery. At Dufftown Station there is a lovely cafe, a converted carriage that sells a variety of food and drinks and is not overpriced, there is also a small museum, shop and toilets on the station too. On the way back we had a member of staff giving out lots of interesting information about the trains and the areas we were travelling through. A really good few hours out that we all thoroughly enjoyed. Just a few photos of many...

Fantastic day! We joined the railway at Keith. We bought our tickets in the little railway shop and the kids needed to buy some "vintage" style mini model cars (very reasonably priced at £2.50!). The lady in the shop was really well informed on the railway and really welcoming and handed out useful local information (so a return visit is now guaranteed). The guards, ticket man and driver could not have been more friendly and helpful, they made the kids day with whistle pulling! Thank you. At Dufftown we got a taxi with Dufftown Taxis to Auchindoun Castle (stunning views) and enjoyed a picnic and games before returning to the station to enjoy amazing hot chocolates and cake and soup in the cosiest little tea shop in Sidings Cafe. The return journey let us see more beautiful landscape, donkeys, deer and naughty lambs. A really wonderful day. Thank you to all the volunteers who run this amazing railway. A must for local and...

Wonderful friendly railway. Very friendly staff. Had a Diesel driving experience and my wife had a go to without extra charge. Scenery outstanding. Stock in good condition. All staff very knowledgable and very interested and friendly. We basically had a personal guided tour of the line; it was the first trip of the day and only 4 people in our carriage at first. The Guard told us everything about the history of the line as we travelled through the wonderful scenery. I thought being just a diesel ride that it wouldn't be as interesting as it actually was. Brought back many memories of travelling behind the driver and seeing the track opening up in front of us. Although very early in the season and quite cold it was an excellent day out. Very good restaurant car, reasonable prices on the whole of the railway. Highly...

The Dufftown station has a large carpark in front for disabled and to the side on rough ground. There are lots of old carriages on sidings, a small museum, ticket office, waiting area, disabled toilet and cafe trackside. A shunting loco also operates. The railway journeys to Keith from here with a stop at Drummuir and Towiemore if you request it. Only runs Friday to Sunday with volunteers. They use original equipment where possible. The train has a first class section at the front of one carriage. This needs to be booked. Large capacity in each carriage. The journey is slow but steady, mostly in trees. A relaxing 20 minutes. Return by the same train or a later one if possible. There is a souvenir shop in Keith and toilets.
