Can't grasp how this get's 4*. Giving it an extra star from 1 2 because most of the staff seemed to hold the place up (pleasant/helpful).
We acknowledged and didn't expect rides as it was very off season (Feb school break).
Pulled into the car park and it gave a vibe of "erm is this right..." like we'd pulled into an industrial park's unit delivery yard. Walked through the area we assume to be one of the ride areas (but with no rides, again not counting rides in review) and found the "small" arcade, seemed alright (bit dingy, think the lower tier Blackpool/Rhyl ones) but a few machines turned off including one of my son's favorites. Asked if "this was it" but was advised the bigger one was round the corner and thought the standard would be better there. Nope... Not exaggerating when I say this, there were 6 machines in a row and ALL of them had something wrong with them, basket ball game guard/grate was held up with some cable ties, next to that was a Deal or no Deal game which ate a quid/screen frozen, next to that was a "spray screen with water" game which had two big warnings coming up on screen saying needs filling with water. Next to that was a zombie shooter style game which was glitching out / the screen contrast was dark blue, next to that we thought might have found an ok one...put a quid in but it acted like the trigger was constantly held down AND the screen didn't react to 80% of the balls hitting the screen.
A lot of the rest was just "put a quid in, watch something spin, might get 5p cash value of tickets" style coin eaters.. pretty grim.
Staff were really nice except one woman in the Cafe serving ..not rude just blunt/talking to colleagues mid transaction, not dropping review because of that...
The saving grace for our 3 + 6 year old was the soft play which looked well maintained/clean and there was a staff member at the gate constantly/she was paying attention and helped my child toward the toilets which are within the softplay off to the side.
The "candy shop" was shut and a lot of the surrounding shops - I get that it's very off season so likely fair enough... Can't say I have the insight/knowledge on the operating costs vs what they take in off season but I'm surprised they don't just close it until the Easter holidays after Christmas break.
Definitely won't be going back unless driving very nearby and kids...
Read moreIm in two halves with this. I brought my son here for his 9th birthday, honestly, mostly for my own nostalgia sake as I used to come here as a child and I remember it being magical. It was great to go back and relive some old memories around the carousel and such, and the day wasn't a total write off, we did have fun, However the park itself its noticeably run down. The amazonia addition was really quite cool, i think i was more interested in the animals than the kids though lol the monkeys were our favourite part, and the birds just flying around overhead! It was worth buying the wristband package which included the amazonia section. The big disco ride was clearly a recent ish addition, and i have to say the best ride there, but There were alot of space where rides should be but were not, and the ones that were there could use a bit of tlc. I wouldnt necessarily call it a theme park anymore but a reasonable price for what it is to be fair. Most of the staff we encountered were friendly except for the guy on the ball toss stand. My sons dad was asking questions, he's not the most tactful person and can seem quite blunt but the man running the stall was then really rude and basically threatened to turn us away from the stall, in front of the children. I had to diffuse the situation so my sons birthday didnt turn into a riot, at which point the man stormed off in the back, it honestly made me very uncomfortable to even walk past the stall after that so we just tried to avoid it. The big plus of the day was the pirate high dive. I havent seen anything like that before, it was entertaining, free of charge, the kids loved it and the divers were super friendly and even said happy birthday to my son. With multiple shows a day its easy to catch, and definitely worth keeping an eye on the time for. We did also eat at the monterrey jack place. The food was OK, but after a queasy few days, next time I come I'll just bring a packed lunch. All In all I would come back in the future but I'd love to see it with its old sparkle back, so the next generation can have the same magical memories I and so many...
Read moreGot wristbands for big opening weekend in March. Quite a few rides were not open and wrist band did not cover all the rides. Many are not owned by m&ds and would have to pay extra for each one which is not clearly explained on the website. There were diy supllies just lying around everywhere. A lot of the grounds to walk on to the rides were broken like builders rubble . Everything needed a paint job. Its was like it had been abandoned for years and they had just decided to open last minute. Rides kept breaking down and being patched up to keep going. We experienced this on 3 rides which is scarey. Toilets were smelly and dirty and only in the amusements, no toilets anywhere else for the hundreds of visitors. Food court was run down, off putting to buying food. We have been going to m&ds for many many years, to the funfair, to pumkin events, to christmas events etc. This weekend was extremely disapointing and embarrasing for tourists coming to Scotland. I was hoping to write about how great it was as we were really looking forward to it. We took another family with us who had never been and we had been raving about it...shame it was such a state and such a huge disapointment. We also booked the crazy golf, the water with the fish was filthy and the staff took all the flags out of the holes when we were in the middle of the game which made it tricky to play. Also needed a spruce up and a clean. Seems all these jobs should have been done ready for the opening. Fingers crossed everything is spruced up and made safe so we can all return one day and have as much fun as you would expect to have, money is tight for everyone and going on such a trip is a big deal...
