I dined here with a group of friends on Sunday (4th) as a party of 7 for a birthday lunch around 12:30pm. When we arrived, we registered our cars on the system so as to avoid a parking fine. We then waited for a good 5 minutes to be seated (the place was not busy, only a handful of tables at the time). A couple of staff members passed us a few times and looked at us but didn't speak to acknowledge us which was a bit odd. Eventually, a young girl (reasonably tall, dark hair in a pony tail) who had walked past us previously then appeared followed by an older female member of staff (blonde hair and glasses) behind her. When we asked for a table for 7 the younger girl paused briefly and asked us if we had booked, to which we replied no. I don't think they particularly wanted to accomodate us if i'm being honest, which at this stage was evident from their facial expressions. Before we could say anything else, we were asked straight away if we intended on splitting the bill or paying it altogether. We asked why this seemed to matter so much (not even sat down yet) to which we were told that if we were paying separately that we would need to eat in the bar area as it 'makes life very difficult for us splitting bills'. Not very welcoming at all, and certainly no way to speak to a paying customer in my opinion. To be honest, if it was up to me at this stage, I would have just left, as I personally felt a bit on edge with the manner in which we were spoken to (quite confrontational). However, as it was my friend's birthday, we stayed as she wanted a carvery for her birthday dinner. For the record, I previously worked as a waiter for six years, so I am well familiar with working in a busy restaurant environment and know what good customer service is. Also, splitting bills was a regular occurrence where I worked previously, which wasn't always ideal especially at busy times, but we just had to accept it and get on with it. Our till was fairly basic, but it was straightforward enough to transfer items to a new tab and print that separately and cash it off. After we agreed that we would pay it altogether, we were then shown to a table off to the right of the restaurant. When we sat down, a few members of the group commented on how we were spoken to before being seated. Two in the group, who live local and have visited here previously, noted that the same girl had served them on previous visits and was pleasant on these occasions, but agreed that in this instance it was different. Saying this, after being seated and ordering drinks, the service seemed to improve a bit and the overall atmosphere was better. Food was nice enough, plenty of it too. When paying the bill, the card machine asked if we wanted to leave a tip, to which we unfortunately chose no based on the service we had received earlier (I usually always tip when eating out - past experience of being a server). I personally wouldn't rush back based on the service, nothing much wrong with the...
Read moreI recently had the unfortunate experience of dining at Toby Carvers, and let me tell you, it was an absolute nightmare from start to finish. The customer service was beyond atrocious, and it's clear that the staff couldn't care less about the satisfaction of their patrons.
Upon entering the restaurant, I was greeted with indifference by the host, who seemed more interested in chatting with their co-workers than actually acknowledging my presence. It took an eternity to be seated, and even then, it was in a dingy corner where the lighting was practically nonexistent.
As if the lackluster service wasn't enough, the state of the plates was absolutely repugnant. I noticed dirt and food remnants stuck to my plate as soon as it was placed in front of me. It was as if the previous diner had used it as a napkin and the staff couldn't be bothered to clean it properly. Disgusting!
Naturally, I politely raised my concern to the server, hoping that they would rectify the situation promptly. However, my complaint fell on deaf ears. The server simply shrugged their shoulders and walked away without offering an apology or attempting to address the issue. It was a blatant display of disrespect towards paying customers.
To add insult to injury, the entire dining area was unkempt and dirty. Crumbs littered the floor, and the tables were sticky and unclean. It was evident that hygiene was not a priority for Toby Carvers, and the overall atmosphere was far from inviting.
I must say, it takes a special kind of incompetence to let a restaurant deteriorate to such an abysmal state. Toby Carvers has clearly failed in providing even the most basic standards of customer service and cleanliness. I strongly advise anyone considering dining there to look elsewhere, unless they enjoy being treated poorly and dining...
Read moreThe service we received last night was absolutely terrible. From the minute we arrived the member of staff who “welcomed” us was short and confrontational. We made a booking and accidentally booked for 6 instead of 7, which we didn’t realise until we got there. It’s worth noting, the restaurant was quiet. When we realised we needed an extra seat the woman just said, rudely, “well you can sit over there then” and pointed us to two tables that were separate and stood staring us as we moved the tables ourselves. She told us that it was “our fault” multiple times that we made the wrong booking. No one disputed this so I have no idea why she felt the need to keep reminding us, other than just for rudeness sake.
Every single thing she said to us was short and unwelcoming. She didn’t say “do you want any drinks? Can I get you any drinks etc” we got “any drinks?”. She spoke to us this way for the entire visit and I have no idea why.
When we got the bill my dad was trying to clarify what was on the bill. He thought there was an offer on that evening but it must not have been. He asked for clarification and English isn’t his first language and he can struggle with understanding things and the woman threatened to call the police on him for not paying. He was going to pay he just didn’t understand the bill, to threaten to call the police on someone who was simply trying to understand what they were paying for is appalling.
Absolutely outrageous customer service, the staff we dealt with were a disgrace to the company and just downright nasty for no reason. Won’t ever be back and wouldn’t recommend them to any one after the...
