Despite being a born and bred Swindonian I had, until yesterday, never visited Shaw Forest. Myself, wife and two kids took a winter walk as an alternative to well trodden routes elsewhere and ultimately this made for a decent outing and a nice change. Of course it's difficult to give a true reflection good or bad on one visit and a cold damp January morning is not the best time to sum up the potential of nature. Nevertheless the park (think forest is too much of a stretch of the imagination!) provides a decent expanse of mixed open areas and woodland to allow you to relax, get some exercise and spend time in solitude, if indeed that's what you wish. Decent paths, not too muddy even in wet, cold weather and a few vantage points to enable some views of Swindon! Credit to foresighted planners as this was once a wasteland and ex dump but you really would be hard pressed to identify this now. Can't comment on car parking as we parked a mile or so away to extend our walk, on peak working days I understand space is more limited. One negative I note from other reviews is that there are a fair few dog poop bags hanging around in bushes etc, shame on the lazy individuals who cant take responsibility for their animals. Clearly if there is a little money in the pot a few bins wouldn't go amiss. Other than that I would recommend the park for some peace and quiet as well as some views and of course getting a little closer to nature. Will be back later in the year to see how the changing seasons alter...
Read moreBeautiful, open, tidy park. A great place to take a look at nature. We loved the mix of open space, meadows, forest, streams and woodland. It's a large area but there are well kept paths and signs that lead you around the place. Its quite well tucked away and has footpath entrances from the western flyer cycle path and shaw. However, it does have a car park if you're travelling by car.Only thing we would say is to go in the spring or summer as the place is alot less wet and muddy at that time of year. If you are planning on going in the wetter months, I wouldnt recomend the path through the woods as its particularly muddy. The place is great for a walk with the kids and or a dog.

It’s open all day long around the clock but late evening is not ideal as i couldn’t find any lamp post. There is a parking space but it can accommodate aprox around 20 cars so if it’s full you can park along the road starting from Johnsons Mazada. One of it’s tail connects to Peatmoor Lagoon lake side (Approx...
