Wonderful day to be had. With some very nice sandwiches packed (although I say so myself I shouldn't... cause I didn't make um 😋); we followed the path along the cliff tops to the lighthouse and were treated to the site and sound of the sea birds' colonies (Razorbills, Kittiwakes, Gannets, Guillemots and strangely one lone Barnacle Goose looking a bit lost). Loads of wild flowers out at the start of June. We spotted four different breeds of butterflies including very cute little blue ones (not sure what type, the little guys wouldn't stay still long enough for an ID) as well as the lovely and very recognisable big peacock butterflies. Trip was topped off with a glimpse of three happy dolphins playing in the wakes of the boats ferrying teams of divers back and forth. This is a great place... Binoculars helpful but not essential. Not a long walk and not difficult, but you could stay all day exploring the coves and watching the wildlife and, obviously, eating very nice sandwiches. Going back soon to explore the other walks and freshwater Loch...
Read moreVast stretches of amazing views of the sea. We were blessed with a great sunny day. There is National trust parking if you are national trust member, as its a National trust site. Beautifully maintained. For National trust members, they have free parking, free toilets, a small cafe. If you are parking in the National Trust lot, then after parking you need to follow the signs and walk for about 10 mins and you will start to have the views already. Start climbing the mountain and go as high as you want to go. The climb is not too hard. You can even go down the mountain to the nearby loch and the sea. The climb back up maybe bit tiring that the earlier climb up. You can even chose to go down to the docks, where there's another paid parking and cafes, restaurants.
Note : it had been raining for a couple of days before we went, so the pathways were muddy and slippery. You need to have good shoes for the climb anyways but if going after the rain, be extra careful please 🙂

Read moreIf you are in the area and enjoy coastal walks, nature, the sea and breathtaking views then definitely take the Coastal Path and walk up to St Abbs Head and the Lighthouse. In terms of distance it’s really not that far but there are some very steep sections and uneven surfaces so sensible footwear is a must (sling backs, open toed sandals and flip flops will not get you very far!😹) Also, be aware that you may not have a phone signal for part of the route. There are fantastic views out to sea and down to the village as you get higher. The Lighthouse was quite a surprise as it’s set into the cliff side rather than being a traditional tower. The path will also take you past the lighthouse keeper’s cottage, now privately owned as a holiday rental. We retraced our steps but there is a tarmac road leading back down the other side with routes past the lake. Well worth the visit for the spectacular views but check out the weather forecast before setting off and dress...
