It’s the first time we’ve managed to get away for for over 18months, unlike many others we were sensible and stuck to the UK for our holiday and ended up here. I honestly can’t recommend this enough.

On arrivals we had biscuits, numerous teas, french press and various other niceties waiting for us.

The Room within the castle that we were staying in was more like a flat, two bedrooms , a hall way and a huge living/dining/kitchen space .

Everything was clean and tidy and the welcome pack had really handy recommendations for where and what to do.

We met Edward, the castle owner, on a few occasions including one where he gave us some of his spare, fresh, eggs.

We took the dogs with us and had no issues, found numerous walks around the castle itself. I admit that it’s likely that the castle being closed added to our experience making it better due to there being no day visitors .

My only critique would surround the ‘check out’ times. It’s seems odd that you can’t enter the premises until 6pm, when you’re required to leave at 9am, especially when it seems that cleaning is done immediately and even with the 2hour ‘airing’ period, it just ends the visit with a feeling of stress and...

The entrance gate on the B6362 features two stone eagles sat on tall pillars. Tarmac driveway to the car park where the kiosk is for entry and having booked online our details were at the entry point. The castle frontage is impressive having been extended in the days of yesteryear and make sure you walk around the back as it's equally impressive and you can see the original building better. Our guide was very informative and had good knowledge of the history of both the family and the building. As with many historic houses there is reference to royalty having stayed at the castle throughout it's history giving rise to the town of Lauder being made a Royal Borough in 1502.

The tour lasted 90 minutes and finished in the cafe with a complimentary drink/biscuit and we felt it gave good value not being as expensive as some historic houses.

You might want to check the event page on the website to see if you can time your own visit to attend any upcoming event.

Definitely worth a visit...

This was my 2nd visit and I was able to book a 7 night stay in the Earl & Countess suite. The apartment was beautiful and clean with everything one could need for such a long stay, and the value is incredible. But what really impressed me (again) was the staff. Unfortunately, I had to request a little extra accommodation due to personal circumstances on this visit and everyone went above and beyond to see that my needs were met. Martin, Amanda, Evelyn, and Sam are amazing people who truly care about their guests and are true credits to the estate. Their attention was all very personal and kind-hearted.

If you stay, make sure to take advantage of the vast trails and gardens and take the short walk to town. The shops and...

Not so much a review of the Castle itself but the Jackie Stewart Classic car show weekend. We went for the modified car show on the Saturday and it was brilliant from start to finish. So much to see and do. We got to see the 2012 redbull racing f1 car do sprints of the driveway and Sir Jackie himself in his championship winning f1 car at the end of the day. Lots of places for food, drink and toilets. Loads of cars to see, race cars to watch, stalls to buy items and bike stunts. I've probably missed other things but all in all it was a great day with a great backdrop of the castle. Let's hope this is a yearly event as we will be back every year.
