If you ever get the opportunity to visit this museum I would recommend that you do. I was able to visit during one of the annual open days that they have in the summer. The RAF run buses from the main house to the museum during the open days. It is also open every Tuesday morning and on request according to the RAF website. The museum is in the middle of the RAF camp, and consists of a large building, and was opened in 1999 by a grandson of Lord Trenchard after whom the museum was named. The museum is centred around the history of the RAF at the Halton site, and covers the very beginning to the current date. There are many sections on the different sections, but much of it centres around the apprentice aspects of the camp. If you are local you might find the old photo’s of the place particularly interesting. Some of the exhibits are...
Read moreLovely little museum, run by a very knowledgeable gentleman. We visited here with our teenage son. Francis showed us round and shared lots of fascinating facts about the history of the RAF and RAF Halton. You can get up close to everything and also handle certain objects. There is also a separate building with old and new flight simulators which my son could try out. We were given a personal tour of that part by another very helpful and informative gentleman. I would definitely recommend this museum. You have to email in advance to book your visit and then you are met and shown around in your group. A fascinating place. Well...
Read moreA little gem full of interesting exhibits, made even better by the enthusiastic, friendly and informative volunteers who run it. We popped in prior to a Passing Out Parade not expecting much, but as soon as we got there my 13 year old daughter was guided into the cockpit of the gnat, provided with a choice of caps and guided round the controls. My husband was especially interested in the weapons and was able to handle them and have a good chat with a knowledgable volunteer. I thought the exhibit on recruit bed space was particularly good. Amazing how many fascinating exhibits in such a small space. Well...
