A good day out for all the family, not cheap to get in but worth the trip. Skelf island is great and the kids run around it for hours. Plenty of parking but it's a 10 min walk to Skelf island from the entrance. Acres and acres of land, gardens and good for snacks and refreshments. Views are stunning and Castle Howard House is stunning. House Gardens are lovely, pay extra to go in house when it's open. Lake is big and plenty of wildlife. All in all a lovely place to visit.

Fun children’s playground that has loads of activities you can do with or without kids. a bit slippery during winter and rainy season so bear caution!

Is this like other adventure playgrounds? Sort of, but honestly better than most!

First off, when friends said they wanted somewhere to take their kids, Castle Howard wasn’t first on the list. However, Skelf Island adventure playground is brilliant for littles, as it offers something for most.

Second, there are facilities (toilets and cafe) right next to it, which most places either lack partly or completely. This means no trekking miles just for a little (or big) to relieve themself before returning to play.

Thirdly, the area is divided up and spaced out nicely, so nothing feels too crowded yet not too far away. The stuff on the “mainland” is more of your standard fare (swings, slides, climbing), whereas the stuff on the “island” is themed around elevated walkways, tunnels, cargo nets. The one way rope bridge across is quite impressive, and definitely best taken steadily to avoid getting “sea legs”! The gentle two way boardwalk is best for those that don’t like heights or have mobility issues.

Finally, there are convenient benches for bigs and tired out littles to rest on, as well as a land train that will help you return to the castle or car park should you be absolutely...

A fantastic day out at Castle Howard. This is great for kids of all ages, but really aimed at 3+ year olds. 5 year olds can do most things there independently.

The one way, super tall rope bridge is not for the faint of heart but it was a great experience. The walkways and slides are super fun, but some kids may need help at times. Adults can get in as well to help their children if they are stuck.

One way on and off the island also means the kids can't wonder off on their own when exploring.
