Read moreIf you are going to visit check for the safe crossing times as it's on a causeway and the road get covered with the sea and you don't want to travel there and find you can't cross. The car park cost £7 for full day and is a good size. The walk to the castle is on level ground and is surrounded by stunning scenery with views to Bamburgh Castle. When you get to the castle you'll be asked for booking number if you have pre-booked. If you haven't you could be waiting a while to get in especially if it's busy. When you get into the castle the path is very unstable and if your not steady on your feet you could find it quite difficult to walk up to the entrance of the castle. The castle rooms are well presented and not cramed with lots of items. There's not alot of history with the castle so it tries to tells the story of the last owner but if you don't know the story it doesn't make much sense. There is only 1 toilet and a queue can form very quickly. You can't buy food or drink so you might need a picnic unfortunately there is only 2 tables to sit at but there plenty of grass to sit on. You can only see the lime kilns from below as it's closed at the top to keep you safe but its worth a trip as there small gaps to crawl through and you can look up at the sky. There is a small garden you can visit that can shelter you from the wind and is a nice sun trap. When we were there the sun was out but the wind was ripping through the castle grounds so you might want to bring variety of...
Read moreA group of 7 folk from Dallas, Texas booked a 1 day trip to Lindisfarne on Holy Island, Northumberland from their Hotel in Edinburgh- Radisson Blue. A sunny day in front of us with stops at Bamburgh Castle, Berwick and North Berwick saw Scotland at its best with Lindisfarne on Holy Island providing the highlight of the Private Tour. A 5* experience for our American guests However, I was informed by these intrepid travellers they were part of a 100 strong Choir with a special mission to sing in firstly Durham Cathedral, then St Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh finishing their recitals at our magnificent St Mary’s Cathedral also in Edinburgh. My wife and I were enormously privileged to be invited to their final programme in our magnificent St Mary’s. Their world famous organist, Bradley Hunter Welch and the amazing Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church “Sanctuary Choir” conducted by Steven Jobman from Dallas Texas produced an immaculate evening of music my wife and I will never forget. So beautiful and spiritual the effects of this unique experience will never leave us. Come back soon - friends made and never to...
