I visited this little garden after seeing it from the castle ramparts. Surrounded by rough fields and sheep pasture, it's just a short walk from the castle along a grassy track, and enclosed by stout stone walls that must give some shelter from strong winds. I came in the autumn when the flowering season was nearly over, but there was still enough colour in the garden to make it interesting. They grow both wild and garden flowers, and a few roses that were still in bloom. There are some seats, and a delightful little shed built into a wall that is used by the volunteer gardeners. Three girls were hard at work tending the flowerbeds. They were very friendly and more than happy to answer any question I might have had about a particular plant. You can take your dog into the garden, but it has to be on a short lead. It's free to enter, even if you haven't been to the castle. Well...

Visiting at the end of August I have to say that the garden was perhaps not at its best, but it was certainly very interesting to look at the wide variety of plants able to grow in what is quite an inhospitable location. There's a good mix of plants and flowers, and the shed to the right (as you go in) is a picture postcard photo within itself.
