At £12.50, with recommendation online to prebook for a “guided tour” this was not the experience I had expected. Earliest slot at time of same day booking, 9am, was at 3pm. I was initially advised the someone would be with me if I waited inside and “took a look about”. There was nobody else visiting the house it appeared. At 3.25pm I double-checked and was told may be “he was out”. No apology, so I asked if it was guided or self-guided and was informed nobody has had a guided tour today. (Then why the time slot and inference that I was waiting for someone?). At 15.45 I was advised by the same individual that she was “waiting” for me to leave so she could “lock up” and go home. I apologised if I’d overstayed. She kindly explained they close at 4pm(!). On leaving the house at 15.50 the toilets were already closed. She kindly offered to re-open them, but it was clear from her coat and bags she was leaving. Bizarre and quite awful customer service, laughable in fact 😂
The is similar to visiting a National Trust property if you’re interested in the building and furnishings. There is something to be gained too regarding learning some insight to Wordsworth. But this really can’t compare to the Dove Cottage & it’s Museum. The latter is a far more educational, enjoyable and much much better value for money. So if you’ve limited time and interested in William Wordsworth then I’d strongly recommend Dove cottage instead. The customer service there is...
Read moreEverywhere you visit in the lakes is just beautiful and here is no different and you will not be disappointed! I would recommend visiting rydal mount where William wordsworth lived and the gardens which are just stunningly beautiful. Lots of little nooks and colours and scenery to explore. After rydal mount and gardens I'd absolutely recommend taking the next part of your wander down to rydal hall and it's grounds...the falls are breathtaking. You can explore the woods and then enter the grounds through the gate by the tea room to explore even more hidden gems like the Grot and Waterfall. Tearoom and toilets available at both rydal mount and rydal hall. Parking at rydal mount is free only with admissions paid to rydal mount. For this parking, Drive past Rydal hall up to the top of the hill and you will see the parking for rydal mount. You can leave the car there once you have explored the house and gardens and want to explore rydal...
Read moreMy wife and myself visited Rydal Mount yesterday and remarked on how neglected the house was getting on the outside a chimney stack had a lot of plant growth around the top which appears the same as it was three years ago. The large climbers at the front of the house together with the bushes need some urgent attention or else they will start to cause damage the building, which itself does need painting. There were three items of wooden furniture in the large window to the left of the entrance doorway which looked as though they are being damaged through constant exposure to the sun. If the owners expect visitors to pay for the privilege of visiting this historic building then surely they ought to be prepared to keep things in good order for the benefit of generations to come. However on a more positive note the cheese scones were absolutely...
