Spitalfields City Farm offers a delightful escape from the bustling city streets, providing a unique opportunity to get up close and personal with nature in the heart of London. During our recent visit, my family and I thoroughly enjoyed our time at this charming city farm, immersing ourselves in its serene atmosphere and diverse range of activities.
One of the highlights of our visit was the bug hotels scattered throughout the farm. These intricately designed structures provide a safe haven for insects, promoting biodiversity and environmental awareness. Exploring the bug hotels with my children proved to be an educational and entertaining experience, as we observed the fascinating creatures that call them home.
My daughter, who had a slight fear of chickens, found solace in observing them from a distance. Spitalfields City Farm's well-maintained enclosures ensured that the chickens were both secure and visible, allowing visitors to appreciate these feathered creatures even if they preferred to keep their distance. It was heartwarming to see her curiosity gradually overcoming her initial fears.
As the day drew to a close, we were treated to an endearing goat parade. The sight of these adorable creatures trotting along, guided by the farm staff, brought smiles to everyone's faces. It was a joyous and memorable moment, leaving us with a sense of delight and appreciation for the farm's commitment to creating a truly interactive and enjoyable experience.
Located in close proximity to Brick Lane, Spitalfields City Farm offers the added advantage of a wide range of food options nearby. After our visit, we ventured into Brick Lane's vibrant culinary scene, indulging in delicious dishes from various cuisines. The farm's strategic location allows visitors to extend their outing, making it a perfect destination for a day of wholesome family fun and culinary exploration.
The farm's staff and volunteers deserve special recognition for their warm hospitality and dedication to providing an engaging experience. Their enthusiasm in sharing their knowledge about the animals and the farm's initiatives added an extra layer of enjoyment to our visit. We felt welcomed and well-informed throughout our time at Spitalfields City Farm.
One aspect that could further enhance the experience would be the addition of interactive activities for children, such as educational workshops or hands-on sessions. These would provide further opportunities for children to engage with the animals and learn about sustainable farming practices.
In conclusion, Spitalfields City Farm offers a delightful retreat in the heart of the city. With its bug hotels, friendly chickens, charming goat parade, and convenient proximity to Brick Lane's culinary delights, it provides a well-rounded and enjoyable experience for visitors of all ages. Whether you are seeking a peaceful break from the urban chaos or a fun family outing, this city farm is a must-visit...
Read moreThe farm itself is cute and idyllic, a peaceful oasis of calm right in the heart of London. The animals look happy and healthy. The small farm shop is a treat and I love their bouquets of flowers to purchase.
Where this farm loses is in it's kiosk customer service and pricing. The food is far too expensive for the quantity and quality of what you get. I see the young blond woman mentioned a lot for rude behavior in these reviews and sadly I have to concur. When I arrived at the kiosk, no one was there. That was fine as I was browsing the menu. Then this blond woman appeared, didn't even look at me, and busied herself for a while. I felt so uncomfortable as I was obviously waiting there to order and she completely ignored me. Then she went away. By then, a couple other people had stopped at the kiosk and were also wondering why she left / no one was there. Finally she came back out again and looked at me so I just placed my order in a rush. No hello, no sorry for waiting, no interaction at all. I paid nearly £10 for a tiny portion of food, and it took so long to order and then receive it, combined with the stress of ordering from someone who doesn't acknowledge you exist. If the kiosk prices/proportions/service can be adjusted, the farm...
Read moreThis place is a true Hidden Gem just a short walk from bustling Brick Lane and a stone's throw from the City you have this little exhibition farm in the middle of a lovely park. Clearly well loved by the all-volunteer staff and visitors alike, this place has plenty to entertain little ones for a good few hours. We went with 5 kids aged 2-8 and they all had a great time. Small animals we saw included ferrets, rabbits, ducks and rescued chickens and then larger animals were pigs, goats, sheep and donkeys. Lots of opportunity to see nature on the well laid out trail around the farm yards. Well maintained (nothing is new, it's very 'rustic' with lots of repurposed bits and pieces but clearly well looked after) with informative signage everywhere. Staff friendly and happy to talk to kids about the animals. Good play facilities in the farm and excellent playground outside in the park too....
