I live near the lock and I just love it. Be it a sunny day or a frosty winter, the Thames look beautiful in every shade. Like others, I cross the river and walk just either of the side of the bridge. Both sides are equally appealing. Nice views of water, boats, river banks, sunrise, sunset whatever it is. I can walk down to the Thames path for hours. If you have an accompany, it's good. Otherwise it is better as you can deeply feel the nature. My 2 cents on it. If you don't live nearby, then also there is no issue. There are ample number of road side parking around this area. Unlike other councils, Richmond council is doing their best to have the free parking as much as possible. But you don't really need to drive here. If you love cycling, it's a great site for long cycling along the Thames path. I am also looking for a good sunny day to enjoy my bicycle trip with my...

Famous for being the last lock downstream on the Thames (there is Richmond half tide lock, but this is tide dependant). Last lock managed by the Environment Agency. Has two footbridges one suspension from Teddington to the Lock Island and another from the island to the Ham bank. Largest weir on the river. Great views from the suspension bridge up and down the river. Moored boats add to the view. Pub (the Anglers) on the Teddington bank next to the bridge. On Ham bank you can walk alongside the largest lock on the Thames at 650 feet long - designed to take a tug and lighters in one operation; together with the launch lock and the skiff or coffin lock, the smallest lock chamber, make this one of the must see sites...

I enjoy walking here from time to time during the summer. I would often; when I had a bit of time - sit on the bench - sometimes lie down and look up at the sky and think about all the songs I was looking forward to make. I would bask in the sunshine (with sunscreen on and my UPF Indiana Jones hat haha) and let nature inspire me - then go on my smartphone and compose some music. Great times! (For me, maybe not for others haha).

I have pleasant memories of these walks. I recommend others during the summer to go on this trail from the local pubs - through to the bridge and then onto the grassy knolls where cyclists go.

Nature can be pricelessly inspirational - highly...

The very first lock at Teddington was built in 1810 and was made of timber, this quickly became dilapidated and was replaced in 1856/7 with basically the launch lock that you see today (although it was refurbished in 1950) In 1904 the barge lock was added making Teddington Locks the largest lock system on the non-tidal Thames. Everything about Teddington Locks is big, we have the largest weir on the Thames , 20 electrically operated gates capable of letting 12 billion gallons (54.50 billion litres) of water through a day at peak flow. We also have the largest lock (The Barge Lock) which is 650 feet (198.12 metres) long and holds 1.75 million gallons (8 million litres) of water.
