Just had another meal here, second time. It was mothers day and the customers were plentiful and a bit crazy. The big table next to us were laughing so loudly and weirdly together with their baby that we felt like we were in a circus. The food was ok, the vegetarian roast was a bit tasteless, and not too much protein, as it was a nut roast. I always enjoy a meat alternative, sure maybe not as healthy but I am not a vegetarian for health reasons, I still love to eat. The starter we had, the crab, was probably the weirdest thing I have ever ordered. It was straight from the fridge and the butter was completely hard, it echoed when I knocked my fork against it. I thought it would be melted butter. It felt weird to eat it so I had a taste but couldnt eat more. I had to salt my roast a lot but all in all it was alright. Just a bit bland, like it would be good to serve a toddler taste-wise, nothing standing out. My wife rated hers 6.5 out of 10 (she had the beef) and it would have been 7.5 if the table with the cacklers wouldn´t have circused it up. I rated my roast 7 out of 10. We won´t come back for a roast, but last time we were there when we were one of the few guests, and the ambience was super chill and nice, and we had the pies, it was a lovely experience. That is why we came back. Bar staff is lovely.

July, sunny weekend, and still enough places for a group of 8 to sit and enjoy the food and beer. Food was great, great selection of beers, service was good and the secret garden at the back was a bonus. I really not sure why the pub next door is so full when this little gem was half empty, but we took it to our advantage.

It's my first visit. The Yorkshire pudding is crispy and not oily at all. I like the roasted taste of the vegetables. The beef is nice too. The warm sticky toffee pudding is rich. The service is very friendly and attentive. Highly recommended!

I am editing the really positive review I left previously, following a disappointing experience a few weeks ago. I booked lunch for my birthday, having had many very positive experiences over the years. This time was different. The person I spoke to on the phone when I tried to book was rude and unhelpful, and made me book online even though I'd told her the number of people who were likely to be coming and it wasn't possible to book online for that many.

The roast I had was dry and tasteless, with overcooked beef and undercooked vegetables and potatoes.

My partner came in with a birthday cake as a surprise a couple of days before and said to me later that the staff were rude and indifferent about taking it. Fair enough if they didn't want to but they should have said so. When it came to bringing the cake out he said they made this unnecessarily difficult and complicated. This meant it wasn't a surprise. I didn't mind but he was disappointed. By this time we'd run out of our allotted time at the table and had to huddle outside to eat the cake in the cold garden with the smokers. We had to ask them to bring plates and cutlery for the cake, another process that seemed to take ages for no reason, and they brought 5 plates for 8 people.

We were told when we arrived that we had a limited time at the table but not when I booked. I don't like this conveyer belt approach , it's not hospitable. We were made to feel unwelcome throughout the process and I don't think it was justified. No one in our party was rude, difficult , unpleasant , loud etc. The staff made it clear they didn't want us so I am sure they will be glad to know that we won't be coming here...
