My wife received the worst discrimination in her life here after the attendant demanded we leave the disabled parking - despite needing walking aids. He insinuated we jumped the queue of cars to do so when there were only 3 in front of us with nobody making a manoeuvre to use the space. His position in the car park at this point was beyond the space for disabled parking. We offered to leave if he wanted to check the cars in front of us, but he ignored this and carried on demanding we leave.
Instead of approaching in a calm and friendly manner, he insisted on leaning into the passenger side to talk to myself in the drivers seat. His aggressive & intimidating behaviour left my wife and children feeling degraded, distressed, and ultimately, this led to myself wishing to file a complaint. The advisor on the arrival desk was very understanding and just as concerned about the treatment we received and offered to file it with the owner. She told us to just leave it there and come in.
Admittedly, we arrived while an online only booking policy was in place, but we found no such mention on the "tickets" link via Google - instead, it was noted elsewhere on the home page. Something im happy to accept as a case of accidental ignorance. The advisor mentioned we could book for an hour later, which we figured we would do in the car whilst the children played together outside. As I was checking out, the car park attendant again came over and demanded us to "move now," as someone else needs the space. Despite showing him my phone and the booking I was told I could make, he responded, "Just move."
We're not exactly selfish, and had we arrived without the option to book, we absolutely would've moved as soon as i'd spoken to the advisor on the arrival desk. But given that we intended to use the facilities, there is no reason to demand we move, let alone speak to someone in the manner he did.
Given what has happened, I'm now exploring my options with citizens' advice & potentially the local mp. A member of my immediate family works with the local council in several of the schools, including one for disabled children, and will now be approaching the headmaster to recommend avoiding Pili-Pala for the...
Read moreThis place is a truly magnificent place for young children's parties!. Could not recommend it highly enough. It has both indoor and outdoor play areas that are generous in size and designed with both fun and safety in mind. Our party had a great day today, as we adults could roam around viewing the meerkats and butterfly house and and the bugs and the lizards and the animal petting areas and get in touch with our inner children when doing so!. The children loved the animals too of course but it was the play areas that kept them quiet(ish) and well exercised. We had a special set out reserved dining room for our children to feed their hungry little faces in. The food was excellent with generous well cooked and presented portions. Pricing was reasonable too, with our party of 20 being fully catered for (in January) for £220 which included access to the animals and bugs and lizards. We all spent around 3 hours at the place, and time did fly. There is full disabled access and generous parking( with an overflow park for busy times). We had to reserve about four or five days in advance, especially for catering purposes. Toilets abound all over the place as well as hand sanitizing areas after handling the animals. You are asked not to bring your own food and drink onto the premises though, which is a reasonable request. The animal and insect displays are not very big but are well laid out and were very interesting to me personally thanks to the little information boards on each display. Kids will love the friendly and furry animals in the petting area. I got to stroke a lizard which flickered it's tongue with every stroke I gave it, much to the delight of people there at the time. Food and drink is available in the cafe and in the children's...
Read moreSadly after vising today I personnel wouldn't recommend anyone who uses a wheelchair to go to this attraction.
I visited the first time around 15years ago and my boys loved it (now 26 & 24)We thought we would take our 12 year old there due to it having a changing place most handy if your child or person is wheelchair bound.
We used to facilities and even though basic it serve its purpose.
When booking I had to pay full price for 1 adult, full for my son then I went £1 cheaper for a carer than a full paying adult. I know times are hard but we was only there for 30mins and that included the toileting break.
What can I say other than very disappointed. Definitely not covid secure, yes plenty of hygiene stations around but no social distancing. The butterfly enclosure was lacking in butterfly's and other enclosures were very tight and struggled to get in the spaces with a wheelchair and then due to the weather (not there fault) we really could get outside either. I am sure that if it was nice, the play areas would be nice for a typical child but for one who is wheelchair bound not so much.
Needs either a rethink on those prices or some much needed money injected into this attraction to make it more usable by the...
