You’d think the strong ties with Vaughn Williams would be the most interesting thing about this church, but in the 1950’s under the looming threat of nuclear extermination that came living in the shadow of the Cold War the people of Dorking converted the crypts under this church into a fallout shelter capable of protecting about 30 people from the initial radio active fallout that would sweep down from London, this of course required a door into the crypts/shelter should the church be locked and they built the rather pedestrian looking entrance as can be seen in the photo at the front of the church for quick access!...
