It's been several years since I have been to butterfly world and I was looking forward to going again. Firstly we went through the butterflies which was fine and saw several different butterflies. This then leads to the reptile section 😢. I am sorry to say this but this place shouldn't have reptiles if they can't be cared for properly. Simple basic needs are not met , the water bowls were green with algae . If these are cleaned every day and fresh water supply is given this should never happen. How is that acceptable? The vivariums all have red heat spot bulbs , they shouldn't have these , the bearded dragon , leopard geckos should have a basking spot lamp at one end and then a UV strip bulb. The red bulbs are old fashioned , they can affect the reptile's sleeping pattern , eating pattern , behaviour and overall health and causes them stress. The snakes should have a ceramic heater again not a red bulb. Are the bulbs changed yearly ? I doubt it. The first snake I understand is an older snake but its spine is sticking out. It's too thin and if he is genuinely eating weekly then potentially there is something wrong with him. The snakes need more in their vivariums to explore. The bearded dragon made me so sad , he is clearly not well , he looks dull and dark in colour , his eyes should be bright and he should be alert .His skin looked loose / saggy and wrinkled which can be an indication of dehydration. He needs more logs and things to climb on . Basic husbandry is not hard. I wanted to take him home and get him to a vet . Apparently they have taken this beardie on from someone who wasn't caring for him but to be honest he still isn't getting the best care. Leopard geckos , where is their moist hide ?? This is basic care . They need this to be able to shed their skin properly. They need hides to hide away in. I got asked if I wanted to go to the reptile talk and straight away I said no as if I went along I would have said what I thought about the reptiles which actually I did to a member of staff . I wish I had actually seen who was in charge to voice my concerns. I mentioned about the temperature monitoring / thermostats and apparently they are on the back of the vivs. I did see some temperature probes. Basic husbandry NEEDS be followed and enrichment is also a must . This really isn't acceptable and it made me very sad and angry and still does now . I couldn't stop going on about it to my family even after we left. I feel that it would be better all round if this place did not have any reptiles. The zebra finches looked OK and apparently some of the koi are under veterinary treatment . The water fountains from what I remember used to be fab , now they are basically just some pond pumps running and again these are full of algae. The only reason I would ever go there again would be to check on the reptile situation but sadly I feel this isn't going to change .

Butterfly World Isle of Wight could be a fantastic All-Weather attraction. I've tried to be balanced in this review. The butterflies we did see are all very beautiful and there seems there could be a good variety of species to see, sadly on our visit we were able to only see the pictured ones - this was reflected in a reduced entry of ÂŁ5, due to the cool weather? However, it was clear the greenhouse heating wasn't on.... The indoor garden isn't currently well-maintained and the feeder fruit was mouldy and dried out, but the few butterflies seem to be happy and healthy. There are certainly a few areas where the upkeep could improve. The plants in lots of the garden and outside are looking a bit brown/dead and could do with a good watering/dust. There were also a good few cobwebs and easily fixed maintenance bits around the place, which could be cleaned up. There was evidence of some new planting and paint so this must be aware to the owners. There was also a mix of modern signage and retro faded signage so another sign of an update happening. There was also animal handling etc but at very spread out times that we couldn't have kept entertained to wait for. In summary, if you do visit the place before the summer, even though it seems as though maintenance is underway even a reduced ÂŁ5 each to see a handful of butterflies is too much. I would be interested to see if the place improves fully for the summer, as it has the potential to be a great attraction. I would also like to add that the listing states that the place is closed, but it is actually open. We went today and it was open as we had seen on their Facebook page.

The Butterfly farm isn't far from where the Ferry's dock if you are taking your car across Isle of Wight, it's also a Garden centre with cafĂŠ. The price wasn't that expensive an the tickets last for a week if you decide to see the Butterflies before you leave especially if u had few hrs to burn before catching the Ferry back to Main land. Be prepared it car get very warm in there during the summer but worth it as the children love as well as myself seeing all the different butterflies under one roof and ones you don't see in cold British weather. As well as the Butterfly farm next to it is a Japanese Garden where they have lots of Koi carps and if you timed your visit you get to feed the Koi with the baby bottle attached to a stick, great experience for the kids the Koi is quite strong when they are feeding and several kids lost their feeding bottles as the koi was tugging quite hard for the food. There's a Italian Garden too but that wasn't very interesting really. There is another area next to the Japanese Garden where they have different species of goldfish, koi and they have millipedes, toads and stick insects and tortoises too and if the kids are brave enough they can hold them . They only area that disappointed us was our lunch we only ordered paninis and chips plus some drinks but took almost an hour waiting at the table for our food and they were not busy, the staff was busy as they only had three staff as the rest all went for lunch break. Our food didn't come out till all the staff came back from lunch, we were all starving especially the kids. Hopefully they manage their lunch break a bit better next time.

This place is really worth a visit. Once you pay entry, you can visit again for free so worth knowing if you are holidaying for a week or more in the Isle of Wight. Free parking. We arrived at opening time (10am) and spent 2/3 hours here, we could have stayed longer if we stopped in the cafe for a coffee or something to eat. There’s outside seating, a little grass area for children to play, and also a small garden centre which we didn’t venture into either. You could really take your time and make this visit a substantial part of your day; or equally you can spend an hour here while passing by, both worthwhile in my opinion. We visited for the animals and it exceeded our expectations. We didn’t anticipate spending very long here and didn’t expect the experiences that were included in the visit. Ryan is a credit to Butterfly World, what a nice guy and great at his job. He had really good knowledge of the animals but more importantly his customer service skills were on point. He was welcoming as soon as we entered, but not overbearing. He conducted the Butterfly walk, answering questions and really taking the time with the children too. He then led the mini-beast handling session where he showed 3 different types of snakes, a gecko, and a baby tarantula! Again very patient with all ages. Finally he took us to the Koi Carp and held a feeding session which was really good too. He was going to lead these sessions again in the afternoon if you arrived later and missed it. Ryan done a fantastic job and he is a great customer facing representative of the place. The gift shop was lovely and the gentlemen working in here (apologies I didn’t catch his name) was also very nice and provided good customer service on entry and exit. Quality customer service is really underrated but when you get it, it makes and elevates the whole experience. Well done Ryan and the team at...

We visited butterfly world a week or two ago and paid ÂŁ24.99 plus ÂŁ7.99 for a family of four and another guest. We are a forces family and we were surprised we had to pay full price as almost all the islands attractions offered us a discount.

We went in and we were instantly dissapointed. I had visited last year with my mum and children and it was teeming with life. This time I visited there were hardly any butterflies at all and the ones we saw were very tired, damaged and looking very sorry for themselves. I was surprised to see there was absolutely no butterfly conservation for UK species which are in dire need of help. If there was some form of conservation it would have perhaps justified the extortionate entrance fee. The place was looking very tired and run down, a lot of the plants were in a sorry state too. The gardens with the fish were ok, again very run down but we very much enjoyed the koi carp talk. The man was very informative and interesting. That was the highlight of our visit hence the 2 stars. The fountains were tired. I'm not sure how they can advertise as Fountain World with about 8 jets? As that was most unimpressive. One of the fountains wasn't working and the other 3 displays were disappointing.

On the website it is advertised as Jumping Jets and Miniature World which was open in 2000 and includes fountains to music and all sorts. Where on earth was that?! I've been twice and yet to find this mysterious attraction. It's either closed down or was never open in the first place or so well hidden we've never found it.

All the attractions on the island give free re-entry for 7 days with your ticket but again we were dissapointed to find that not the case here and we certainly weren't going to spend ÂŁ16.50 to get back in again.

All in all a thoroughly...
