This place is one of Northern Ireland's top national parks. It has a stunning lake and beautiful gardens and a great place for family days out. If you have not been here you are missing out. It also has fishing (Rainbow & Brown trout) it has a rock bottom so the lake has pretty clean water making the fish very edible. Fishing requires both a permit and licence which can be bought online and in Castlewellan and Newcastle. For quite times early in the mornings or after 7pm it feel like you have the lake to yourself. And on nights with lovely weather the views of the lake,castle and garden's are very special. Read moreCastlewellan Lake offers a great option for a day out. Not only does it offer terrific walks around a very picturesque lake and the castle, it also offers some fine views of the Mourne Mountains.
The site also provides more adventurous walk for the brave of fool hardy. I recommend that you take a map rather than depend on the local signed. which can be a little confusing.
