School's back, and so is the British hot weather. Devon and Cornwall boast some beautiful beaches, and Putsborough is one of my favourites. Generally, less crowded than its neighbours, Croyde, Saunton or Woolacombe, Putsborough is an ideal beach for the family, with its gorgeous sand and lots of lovely rock pools to explore with baby crabs 🦀 shrimps and tiny fish. Car parking is generally £10 per visit and there is a little snack shop with the usual beach prices, so it is best to come well prepared, particularly if you're on a tight budget. One of the reasons Putsborough Sands tends to be quieter is because of the narrow lanes you have to navigate to get here. One London tourist asked me: "Isn't this one way?" as his car inched past mine. You can see Woolacombe at the far end in my photos and videos. Woolacombe tends to be more crowded, and there is a range of shops offering buckets 🪣 spades and dinghies, but if, like I, you come well prepared, then the white surf 🏄♂️ the soft golden sand the absence of beach goers with their antisocial music, are a real treat and a recipe...
Read moreStumbled on to this beach in the late 90s. It absolutely blew me away. The first time I went there wasn't any parking fees, obviously with the popularity came the dreaded commercial bleed. However the beachfront is one, if not the best Devon has to offer. Not the easiest place to get to, this was a plus back then as it meant only the steel blooded would venture forth. I still wouldn't want to drive there with a caravan in tow! The tide needs to be watched on the Puttsborough end but the slow long shallower end in Woolacombe allows you to go out even when the tide is returning. Great for body boarding, surfing and general fun. Keep an eye on kids though! This is a massive beachfront. I never saw it crowded! Never even in the height of summer. It still retains its beauty so many years on and continues to be canine friendly. (Respect the community and be responsible for any mess!). If you have never been, it's a must. The sunsets over this beach are...
Read moreI've given this coastal resort a 3 star rating, yes this stretch of North Devon Coastline is truly stunning, with bold cliff edges and sandy beach that stretches for miles, good surfing spot, popular with families, but not so great if you've got mobility issues, a really steep ramp down to the beach and a one way system for the café, which includes a steep flight of wooden steps, we did manage to get served, and then there was a huge queue for the toilets, which was being manned and only letting in a few people at a time, not great if you're absolutely busting to go, although the cleanliness was 100% with a on site cleaner going round every 15 minutes. One carpark with one all day fee of £5.00, so if you only wanted to be there for a short visit it would...
