Well shiver me timbers, me hearties! If you're thinking of heading to Putsborough beach cafe, you might want to batten down the hatches and prepare for a bit of a basic experience. The food is served in a container, and you'll be expected to do a bit of swabbing the deck and clear your own tables. And don't be caught off guard like some of the other landlubbers - the food is given at a collection point that isn't clearly explained, and they don't shout out your name loud enough to hear over the sound of the seagulls. We braved a rainy day to check out this place for lunch, and to be honest, it wasn't quite the treasure trove we were hoping for. But what really got me steaming mad is that you have to pay the car park day rate just to go to the cafe - a whopping seven pieces of eight! That's enough to make Blackbeard himself walk the plank! All in all, Putsborough beach cafe is a bit of a bare-bones operation, with a few hidden costs that might make you want to keelhaul someone. But if you're looking for a quick bite and don't mind doing a bit of your own grunt work, it might be worth a visit. Just don't say I didn't warn you, or you might end up walking the plank yourself!

We thought we’d drop in there for a nice cup of coffee on our way through. We expected it to be busy and it was. The serving hatch wasn’t really up to the job, with the queue stretching outside, past the plastic buckets, windmills, kids kites, kaleidoscopes, water pistols and all other things China. All of this is fair enough, and I suppose it’s human nature when having such a captive market, young families etc who’ve trekked down the sandy track from distant lane parking, with mum/dad, committed by now, to pay whatever it takes to feed hungry little mouths, to optimise prices. But the prices being charged here were at the point of obscenity. Hard pressed families were being charged £3.75 for a paper cup of coffee with or without milk and £7 per head for anything decent to eat. We consumed our coffees and mused on how much they might cost this time next year 🤔 Nice enough place but a shame that dad needs to take out a mortgage to feed the kids.

Probably one of the worst beach cafes I’ve ever been to. First off the chap who was serving has the worst people skills. Seems to panic when a few people came in and wasn’t clear with helping at all. He was so awkward to order with, and seemed to expect that I should know what they sold, not understanding that this might be my first time there. And in no way helpful! We also watched him run out to tell a lady she couldn’t park outside. She unloaded a person in a wheelchair then tucked her car out of the way in a perfectly acceptable parking place. She had to drive up to the nearly empty car park up the hill. Considering it was a quiet Friday in feb, I just think that’s ridiculous. Also the place is sooooo cluttered and messy and just felt like complete chaos! They could really make this place great, and unfortunately it fails on so many points!

I would have liked to rate the place higher as the food was good, the pasties are great! Coffee was also really nice and although some have commented the coffee came from a machine the flat white I had was way better than my bean to cup machine could make and tasted as good as any other from a coffee shop apart from the top places.

The problem was the service in the main shop or the lack of. You can only enter in one side and there was about 8 people/couples ahead of us in the queue. It took about 5 minutes to get each person through it really was painfully slow and mostly just to take someone's food order. There didn't seem to be any sense of urgency either and plenty of other staff not doing much or standing at the empty cold drinks counter.

After 20 minutes my wife and I had enough and went outside to the small stall and got served within a few minutes in a fast moving queue. We went at about 1130 so not much of a queue but I really wouldn't want to go in there at peak hours as you'll be in for...
