What a beautiful and well maintained park, I love coming here for a stroll with the family and baby whenever I visit the UK to see my folks.
I grew up here and have fond memories so it’s nice to see the park has not gone to tatters like most of Oldham has over the years.
There are some real beautiful authentic Victorian fixtures like the bridge and gazebo stage thingamajig. There’s also what looks like a mini Japanese tea garden section that’s lovely to take pictures in and read about the history of the park. I’m yet to try the boat rides and Boathouse cafe, but there are so many lovely spots to have a picnic or gaze into the water. My young nephews love playing badminton and frisbee here so it is a great place to bring the kids for a day out to burn off some energy. They also have a nice play park with a sandpit and some (challenging) climbing and swinging structures (difficult for an old codge like me!)
The greenhouse isn’t usually open when I am here, but I love the house and garden behind it.
It’s nice that they have a free parking lot too, hope it stays that way! Definitely a “Thing To Do” if you’re visiting or reside...
Read moreStunning park, a jewel in Greater Manchester's crown that is not well known, at least I've lived here for 13 years and first time we discovered it today! Immaculately kept and beautifully planted borders with azaleas, fountains, interesting Victorian architecture, pond with lots of birds, we saw 3 herons - only thing they don't seem to have (on the boating lake) is any boats! Haha. Was a bit worried it could be too hot for the dog but lots of shade under the trees and a little woodland walk. Nice little café, although we were lucky to grab the one table in a bit of shade by the wall, but you can get take-out cups to drink elsewhere - very tasty cappuccino and they do Italian style ice creams. We will definitely be coming back. Easy parking too, there are no yellow lines along the road if there's no space in the little car park. This is what parks used to be like when I was growing up, a lot of places no longer have the money to keep them nice but this one is really well cared for and a credit to...
Read moreMany a happy day as a little girl playing on the swings, roundabouts and slides. The Lions Den, is a building which has nothing in it but two Lions on either side. Lots of children climb these and sit whilst parents take photos. The Lake itself has been updated. As years ago it was used mainly for the launch boat to take families around the Lake for a few pennies. Alas no more launch or rowing boats on the water anymore. There is a lovely place to stop for a drink or a snack called The Boatyard which is run by adults with learning difficulties. You can sit inside or out so it's an all weather cafe. The view outside is for taking the peace and tranquility and to enjoy some of the Boatyards Bill of Fare. Overall Alexandra Park is a gem and there are lots of interesting places on route around the park. It has 2 big car parks and the area is more than suitable for the infirm and for disability scooter users. Its a must if you enjoy horticulture...
