I don't know how useful this review will be as I only see these places from a boat and don't always get ashore. So I can't comment on eateries, pubs and such.
Not the most stunning anchorage in St Austell Bay, but useful in the right conditions, which means an offshore wind.
Some of the beaches we anchor off are inaccessible from the land. This beach is certainly accessible from the land. Maybe it is private, as is is nothing like as crowded as Porthpean beach next to it; there must be a reason. It is a pleasant sandy beach (when the tide is out, shingle when the tide is in), and I have seen dogs on (in the evening) it so I assume it is dog friendly.
As a yotty, The only negative about St Austell bay is that in the high season and calm weather, there are many speedboats and jet skis that zoom about the whole bay. But must grumble, it is no more my bay than...

Sandy and stones quite grey lots of fun rocks to climb and lots of seaweedy rocks when the tide goes out you can walk along the wet sand.
