After drinking in the Harbourside for 12 years we were so looking forward to the reopening after the fire damage, we had missed "our local" big time during the renovation but honestly couldn't have been anymore disappointed after our visit. The pub feels cold and like a cross between a hub-box restaurant and a church due to the bench seats and the decor has cold clinical colours, there is nowhere comfortable to sit and all the stools have no backs, it almost feels like the pub wants you to eat and leave quickly. Service was cold and unfriendly with no conversation being struck up by the bar man when we said we were local and were having a look around, it felt so unwelcoming with quite a few staff on and off duty hanging around the bar. You can't see what beers are available clearly and the only known lager was korev and the other two were around £7 and pretty average after having a taster, I them asked for a draught cider instead but they don't have any which I've never heard of in a supposed pub? The only food that is served is pizzas and we had planned on having one on our first visit back but the range was tiny and the menu looked like it had been hand written by a child, really low standards for such a newly opened business especially coupled with the lack of service. There's no live sport now and randomly there was a surfing film showing, think that's the other coast though and definitely not the Charlestown vibe! After speaking to other locals about our visit everyone feels the same and also told us that the pub had no lime cordial, soda water and has ran out of pizza dough on numerous occasions when that's the only food on the menu! There's also a very random take away alcohol fridge section suggesting beach drinks and some clothing you can buy, alcohol isn't allowed on charlestown beach and the fact you can buy a t-shirt there but not get a drink you want or potentially food is hilarious, think the marketing team have got this place badly wrong for where it is! When we left after our drink we had no goodbye, thank you or any acknowledgement and potential customers were walking in for a quick look and being totally ignored then walking out, we decided instantly after one visit that it would be our last, totally gutting after we have spent so many years in the amazing pub it was before before this catastrophic downgrade. Ducked in because it was raining. Had a lovely interaction with the barman. Had a few tasters and settled on a beer and some snacks. Nice atmosphere and enjoyed laughing at the red bull soapbox event on the TV while we chatted. Deducting one star because in the whole place there was only one bench with a back and as it was taken we had to lean up against a wall. Wouldn’t encourage me to stay for an evening or a second beer. Looks like an expensive refurb has been done judging by that other comments but I think investing in changing some of that seating would be additional money well spent. Sorry!

Wandered in for a quick zero beer. Staff were really friendly, zero (well 0.5%) on draught. All beers on offer are their own brews from various breweries around the area. So nice to find a zero on tap and a great taste too. Liked it so much we stayed for a second, maybe even a third. Bought a pizza, freshly made on site. Then the band turned up so will stay for a little while longer. Nice day that turned out even nicer. My recommendation scores don’t reflect what we ate, but they offer vegetarian options. Dogs allowed.

Judging this venue purely based off it's own merits; the beer is fantastic, and the food is fabulous, both pair very well together. It is an admittedly interesting decision in location for a venue like this, but it does provide variety to an area that might otherwise be starved of it. The selection of beer is extensive and well priced for the caliber, with some cask choices too which is less common in craftier spots like this. The fridge is a great addition to take away and enjoy a quality beer outside.

The service was a delight, fantastic chat from both behind the bar. Food arrived hot and fast. Beer poured perfectly.

I admit when I first checked this spot on Google maps the lower than average rating for the area caught me off guard. It appears half the negative reviews are for the venue that was here before this spot, and the other half are a gushing of nostalgia for the previous venue.

The biggest pity to me is the lack of sunshine and outside seating in the evening, but that does not detract from the experience inside, and with the beer fridge and takeaway food, they have made every reasonable accomodation to make...

We visited The Beer House in Charlestown a couple of times for a pre-dinner beer and were pleasantly surprised each time. There was plenty of space and seating, making it a comfortable and relaxed place to unwind before heading out for a meal. The service was friendly and efficient, and we loved the casual atmosphere.

One fun bonus was the shuffleboard, which added a bit of entertainment and made the place feel even more welcoming. The beer selection was very good, with a solid mix of styles to suit different tastes. The only slight downside was that a couple of beers listed on the menu had been unavailable for at least three days, which seemed a bit unusual.

That said, what was available was still excellent, and we had no trouble finding something we enjoyed. It’s a great little spot for a laid-back drink with a bit of character, and we’ll definitely be back again next time we’re in...
