Chesil Beach was on our to do list when we visited the Jurassic Coast. We already knew the centre was the place to park at and walk from, but what we didn't know was what else was there. The centre itself has a lovely cafe, where we had lunch after our walk, an information centre telling you all about the area and what to look out for, plus a small gift centre where you can buy everything from a pair on binoculars to a rubber for school. Walking on the shingle of Chesil can be very challenging so we recommend walking back towards the marina and Osprey Quay. To do this cross the road and follow the signs of the South West Coastal Path. This is a great walk if you are a birdwatcher. The path runs adjacent to the protected bay of Portland Harbour so this calm piece of water is home to many marine birds. As mentioned we had lunch in the centre after our walk. The service was great and the prices good. The quality of the food and drink we purchased was also perfect. Tip of the day: Get the table nearest the window that looks out over the Fleet. Perfect viewing whilst you eat and drink!

Great little centre. Perfect way to start the trek from one end of the beach down to the other. Very informative and useful. The little wooden bridge onto the pebble beach itself is decorated with some wooden animal carvings and memorial plaques which is a nice touch. The car park like many in the error seemed to have issues with taking card payments so I'd recommend either downloading the app or using change. Nice view across to Portland as well

Haven for walkers and bird watchers. Very nice visitor centre. Plenty of information about Chesil Beach, the wild flowers that grow there and the wildlife that inhabits the area. There’s a few children’s activities that go on here. Shop is well stocked, sell decent binoculars as well as all sorts of items. Bonus to visiting here is The Taste Cafe, food is always good, staff are friendly, toilets clean.

This is fantastic visitor centre situated on the edge of one of the most outstanding and intriguing geographical landforms in the UK. The Centre is excellent there is an wonderful exhibition on Chesil Beach how it formed through geographical processes, how people have used it and lived around it over the years, the wildlife and it's importance as a site to the environment and all of which is very interesting and lovely to read about. The Centre displays information about the recent sightings of wildlife in the area giving you an idea of what you may encounter when you walk along Chesil Beach. You can also enjoy amazing views of Portland Bill, The Jurassic Coast and also Other areas of Chesil Beach and The Fleet Lagoon. There are some nice walks along Chesil Beach where you can take in the spectacular scenery and wildlife. There is a lovely cafe on site selling a nice range of food and drink at reasonable prices and also a gift shop with a nice range of souvenirs at reasonable prices. Overall this is a lovely place to visit and see one of the most outstanding coastal geographical...

Extremely pretentious. £8 for a toastie?? You can call it a panini and serve it with roquette but unless you're doing something really special with it, its a rip off.

Its next to chesil beach! It's hardly sandbanks! If I wanted to be ripped off I'd go there!

Besides, the decor is a bit "school cafeteria" to warrant those prices. A cafe like that should be doing bacon rolls for a fiver and crab sandwiches. Its a better business model - sell 1,000 products and make 10p per product than sell 10 products and make £1 per product.

Staff were rude. Probably because my friends and I were on motorbikes. There's an irony to it, a snobby waitress looking down her nose at me for having a motorbike but I bet my bike costs more than a year of her wages!

I'd much rather drive a mile or so next time and find somewhere...
