Lovely beautiful place. Has a small playground and benches with a coffee/ice cream shop, picturesque waterways, fountains, weir and of course the river! Popular with canoeists, stopping by on a bike ride and taking the family for the afternoon (with easy pushchair and wheelchair access). There's a large guinea pig enclosure and a couple of large exotic bird enclosures for the kids to see also. Nearby is the lock to watch the boats go through, great on a sunny afternoon, with a small ice cream hut too. There's a cheap pay car park nearby over the road with lots of space (don't use the expensive one with playground further down). Bad points: * There are male/female/baby change toilets, but they really were quite fikthy, which was a real let down when taking the kids. Use the nearby bar instead. * Occasionally there's groups of lads that like to take a few cans of lager and lounge about topless on the grass areas by the river, although never seen any trouble. But still not ideal when you have small kids with you. * The Boulters bar/restaurant nearby is overrated and grossly overpriced - £2.50 for a tiny kids lolly that's around 50p elsewhere! Don't expect change from a fiver (or more!) if you ever want a pint too.

I had never been here before and came after seeing the hell fire caves a short drive away. Myself and children really enjoyed it. Very pretty little area and awesome weir to see. We went to the food cafe nearby and got some food and drink which was very reasonably priced. Admittedly we got a deal as it was near the end of the day but even without that it was priced fairly. We had hotdogs and drinks and a few snacks and ice creams. Lovely little play area for kids nearby and a few bird aviary's to see with birds. Squirrels running around near which the younger kids loved. Walked up to the Weir bit and it is quite loud but impressive to see. We crossed over the bridge to the little island and walked up to the other side of Weir and back. In all a nice place to spend an hour or two.

Beautiful place by the Thames river. We went there on a sunny day and there were lots of families on a picnic. There are some wooden animals and a bridge kids can play on. They can also see guinea pigs and parrots in a little enclosure. We've seen ducks and swans on the river behind the boathouse and by the way they met us I would say they're used to being fed, unfortunately we didn't come prepared. The weir is quite impresive and it is my understanding that downstream to it freestyle kayaking can be practiced. Lots of people waiting by the Boulders Lock to see the boats going up or down the river makes this another point of interest. Car park's not too far, about 3 minutes walk and there's a restaurant and a little cafe onsite.

This is a lovely little place, i know some people aren't keen on squirrels but I adore them and there's plenty here having a jolly and I loved watching them. Really cool seeing and sitting by the weir and next to the rive. A lovely peaceful place for young and old. Picnic areas and plenty of benches if you need frequent rests or just want to enjoy the scenery. Food huts and toilets available and area with small animals like guinea pigs and small birds. Personally I do feel the bird cages could be updated as they seem a little miserable but a nice addition we weren't expecting.

For a relatively small place this holds many treasures. You've got the guinea pig and bird cages, great views of the Thames and the nearby weir, and an assortment of play equipment. There are large numbers of benches overlooking the river and suitable toilet facilities. Can get busy during the weekends and the summer, especially the hot food and ice cream stalls, but peaceful and quiet during the week. Open from 7am each day and the best parking is a few minutes walk up the road. I recommend carrying on your walk further up the Thames towards Cookham too.

Ray Mill Island is a great place for a family outing. If you time your visit right you can watch boats passing through the lock before walking to the island. On the island you will find loads to do. You can visit the weir, see the animals (birds and guinea pigs), feed the ducks... kids can play on a few adventure playground style games and you can get refreshments (sandwiches, drinks, ice creams). There is a car park just up the road and for local residents with an Advantage card, parking is free.
